Im sitting here and wondering why the heck some of the shows for kids even made it to TV. Some of them are completley horrible for kids...like teletubbies, wow wow wubzy, oobie, yo gabba gabba for starters...Have you ever say down and watched these programs? Some of them are not educational at all and actually promote mis pronunciation to kids. Seriously some of these shows are horrible. I like educational shows like Dora, blues clues, and the backyardigans....but really I wonder what kids are watching these days and what its teaching them. Whats your opinion?

The Teletubbies scare me and I never let my kids watch it. It was just a bunch of mumbling and babbling which they already knew how to do. But the other ones...they aren't bad. We used to watch Oobie all the time. I haven't watched Yo Gabba Gabba but my 5yo likes it and she loves Wow Wow Wubzy. In my opinion not everything has to be educational. The only educational show I watched as a kid was Sesame Street and I turned out okay. My kids watch about 10 times more educational stuff but they also watch fun stuff like Spongebob, Rugrats, Simpsons, Scooby Doo and lots of other stuff. And they have been doing it since they were toddlers. I love TV. It is fun and we have fun watching it together.

Ahh, I see your point. The ones I hate, on a personal level, are the ones with all the singing. They drive me crazy. Like Barney (which I never allowed my kids to watch either because it annoyed me), Wiggles, etc. The Backyardigans is starting to get on my nerves, too. When they were toddlers I almost always watched with them and I enjoyed Max and Ruby, Charlie and Lola, 64 Zoo Lane (a personal favorite of my now 5yo--she even named a doll Lucy), Maggie and Ferocious Beast and a few others. The really educational ones annoy me. I suppose they are interesting and entertaining to toddlers and preschoolers but the singing and repetition drive me crazy. There is only so much Dora I can take. Now they have started to watch cartoons I watched as a kid--Tom and Jerry, Scooby, Rescue Rangers, Tail Spin, etc.

LOL...I know what you mean by the teletubbies scaring you...They are the creepiest things I have ever seen! :) As for the rest...I dont expect everything they watch to be educational, but some of it is just completley dumb...Spongebob and scooby...they all have a point or story line...its the ones where they are just bumbling around and about nothing are the ones that drive me nuts! Oh well right! ;)

I think there are some kids shows on tv that are good and some are amazingly stupid in my opinion. Programs like "In the night garden" and "Telletubbies" aswell as others like "Balamory" and "Bobinogs" are very strange and seem to make kids think all the weird sounds they make/talk like are normal. They don't really teach kids anything either. I don't mind some kids programs because they teach kids things or at least they talk more normally and read storys to the kids too. My son likes to watch "Roly mo" and "The fimbles" aswell as "Roary the racing car" because he likes anything with cars and he loves programs where they read stories. He also likes programs that have music on. ~Joeys wife

LOL...I think you and I are on the same wave length here. I just cant stand the shows about nothing and all of them talk gibberish. I started buying the books that cartoons have out...Those are great because they can read it instead of watch it...We are accumulating a nice library in the process as well :)

I don't let it bother me. My oldest LOVED the Teletubbies & actually still does at almost 9. The show did not hinder her in any way. You can find value in almost any of the kids show if you are willing to look for it.

To be honest the only time I watched the teletubbies it was an episode about them steeping in poop...That was it for me..I banned it from the TV....If I cant easily see the value in it then how can a child? Like I said others are great like Dora, Diego, Blues Clues, and even some others, but some are just horrible to me..I did get lucky and my kids were not into teletubbies when they were allowed to watch at someone else's house. To each his own I guess...Did you hear about the Baby Einstein scandle?

I do not approve of some of our current porgramming, but we can build our own libraries with movies and the like that with values we wish to instill in our youth. We to can combat bad tv.

I try to limit my children to only an hour of TV a day...during the weekends 2 hours...I tell them they have plenty of imagination that needs to be put to use..Im lucky they like to read and play with their toys...If its nice out..they go outside. I just dont understand why they let some of these kids shows on TV..lol...They make no sense.
