I worked for a boss who had two small kids that would not allow them to watch Sponge Bob Square Pants swearing he was gay and that he would never let his kids watch such filth. I have watched the show over and over and can't find anything of it. What do you think? I would love to hear other's responses on this matter.

How can anyone infer sexuality from a cartoon ?!!!!Spongebob is the greatest and I wouldn't care if he was gay/bi/tv/hermaphrodite!!!!the cartoon does play around with adult concepts but only as visual one second gags.I'm 31 and still watch it when I can because it has me in stiches!!Maybe this guy had a realllllyyy strict upbringing?

Agreed... and if there is parental guidance that helps even further... showing how much he likes to work... his dedication to Patrick and Squidward.... you are absolutely right.

I agree but there are others in the mainstream who think the same way he does. About 3 or 4 posts up you will see a link... you can watch what all the fuss is about. I agree there is a lot more that is a lot more harmful for our kids than Spongebob.

cool! I think spongebob actually helps kids ! I know it sounds a little strange. but spongebob's relationships with his friends are quite morally guided however absurd the plot is !

Check out the link to the MSN article... the question I would have is what is it that makes you hate sponge bob and how/why does that translate into kids absolutely loving him.... Barney of this generation of rugrats? Thanks Zelo

Now, I'm not going to say that Sponge Bob is gay...but he does seem to be on the femine side. There was a time when I didn't know if he was a boy or a girl. I know, sounds weird...but those big huge moon eyes of his and those lashes! Freaky.

WHAT?! really? i don't think so. I don't think Spongebob is gay. *guffaw* Why on earth would Spongebob be gay? it's funny alright but gay? maybe what he meant was it's too sissy or something? Haha... It's for kids so it should be funny enough for adults... ^_^

Read the earlier post... there is an article from MSNBC on there about Sponge Bob being gay... I think this is when this all really started. Thanks Zelo

A few questions: when is it acceptable to think gay = filth in this day and age? I understand that people use religion or morals to explain hate, but I usually think about love as the first rule of any religion. I have indeed watched Sponge Bob Squarepants many times, and I would never say he was a homosexual. Some stereotypes could be: 1) He talks in a higher vocal range 2) He only hangs out with guys 3) He likes to prance around But, again, if that is what will make someone change the television on a show on Nickelodeon about make believe creatures in the sea, we might as well turn off the television completely. Mister Rogers must be gay, and especially the Teletubbies, and don't forget Sesame Street. A good question to ask this boss is...what does he let his children watch? Maybe they watch Pat Robertson all day. Perhaps.

I love that show! I don't think he is gay but even if he is so what? I doubt the creator would ever come out and say that Spongebob is gay but if he was it's not like he is out there screwing Patrick or anything! I think you boss is stupid for thinking that.

Ex-boss... and yes I agree that he is ridiculous for saying such a thing about such a great show.

Some people look for things just because they have a vivid imagination then again your friend could be winding you up. I dont see Square Pants as being gay. My daughter loves Noddy and lots of people say he was gay. Anyway whats wrong with gay? Does he mean gay as in gay sexually, gay wierd or gay happy?

I believe in this day in age the word gay is synonomous with homosexual and not happy.

I heard this issue too being thrown at the show. But me too I havenot seen any signs that Sponge Bob is indeed showing that he is gay. Oh well there are just many people who are overly critical over a cartoon show. My son loves to watch it when he was young but I think he already have out grown watching it.

I don't know if you can ever grow out of watching Sponge Bob but I can see that every response is exactly the same... where are these gay reference referring to. It is said Sponge Bob is the most watched show (kids cartoon) watched by adults... heh... I don't know about that.

I watch Spongebob quite a bit. Whenever I first started hearing the Spongebob is gay crap, I watched it trying to find something that pointed to it and I couldn't find anything. The same could be said for Bugs Bunny. Look at all the times he kissed other male characters in his show. I mean, he did it quite often, so why aren't people attacking a character that is more likely gay, than a yellow talking sponge?

Agreed and can't the same thing be said for the violence on television today... Bugs Bunny & characters are a good example there that even back in the '50s and '60s there was tons of violence (Elmer Fudd trying to shoot Bugs, Wile E. always falling off a cliff, etc...).

My kids watch that show every morning I have never seen anything that would make me not let them watch it. I have not seen anything to suggest that Spongebob was gay. Spongebob seems like a little kid to me! Your ex boss is a strange one.

I like that analogy that he himself is a little kid (or acts like one). And yes my ex-boss was indeed a strange one -- though I have heard this argument elsewhere, he was the closest person I knew that supported it.
