Well I have decided to make a quilt, my first one at that. I wanted to sew everything by hand, but it's taking to long to do that. So I decided to take my husband's advice and use the sewing machine. Did I mention I hate sewing machines and they hate me too. I got a few pieces done and now it won't thread like its suppose to. The bobbin spool of thread, that is. I am so agrivated right now! I guess I will just go back to hand sewing the quilt together. Thanks for letting me vent guys!

I know exactly how you feel. Sewing machines hate me too and as soon as I touch one something goes wrong. I am also making a quilt. At first everything was great. I embroidered the squares to make a history quilt for my little granddaughter. The squares were done in red work and each square depicted a Canadian theme. The log cabin, the Canada Goose, a polar bear, a groundhog, an elk and historical figures, Queen Victoria, the gold miner, the railroad worker etc. Well the trouble started when I sewed the square together, they did not match exactly and it looked awful. So a neighbor who is a seamstress fitted them together for me and now the top was done. It looked great. Now I bought the batten and backing and basted them together. I went to a creative festival and some ladies from the Quilting Guild were there and showed me how to hand quilt the three pieces together. Trouble was I had no quilting frame and it did not work out. So I undid what I had done and took out the evil sewing machine who gave me the evil eye. I could sew a straight line but no matter how much I basted and pinned the materiel it kept bunching and the underside of the quilt got all bubbly instead of flat. Then I undid it all and wanted to start again but all of a sudden the machine did not thread properly anymore. I got so frustrated and just rolled the whole thing up and put it away. Then a friend from out of town came to visit and demanded to see the quilt since she had given me the ideas and a booklet to trace Canadian images. She looked at it and told me I had to buy a quilting foot to stop the bunching. I said no way I am not going to do this anymore. She then said since it was straight lines she would do it. So I sat until 2 a.m. to undo all the seams again. She took it away the next day.She said she would get to it at the end of January. Hope you have better luck. Thank you listening to my tale of woe.

I feel your pain. I am done with sewing machines though. My husband came home and couldn't fix it. So I give up them. I will just have to hand sew everything. We will see how it turns out.

My daughter-inlaw suggested that I take the sewing machine to a repair shop and have it thoroughly cleaned and serviced. She said it would cost about $50. I don't think so. It is not the money but I know I will muck it up again. Yeah, I am with you on this.

I love to hand sew. My husband taught me how. I crochet as well, but never thought about making curtains. That sounds pretty neat! Thanks for sharing!!
