English people are notoriously bad at learning languages and Chinese is very hard to learn, since slight differences in pronunciation fundamentally alter the meaning. Secondly there is a conceptual shift required as the structure of the language is so very different and finally how can they type it on their keyboards?

Yes but who, in UK, is going to go and buy one to learn Chinese? They will probably just learn an easier language

They do make Chinese keyboards. You can get them online, just like I got my Hebrew one online!!

Unfortunatley we are not just taught Chinese here... (in australia) I guess unless you go and learn it yourself, it is not taught in schools... well as far as I know - all the schools that I know what language they teach it is generally itailan or french.
Hope this has been helpful to you, have a great day!

hi Kenney,
I am from Kolkata India. Chinese food is very popular here but not so Chinese language. I am fascinated by different languages but I have heard that Chinese is a very difficult and elaborate language. I have also heard that there are no such alphabets in Chinese language, instead there are symbols for everything. Also different words have different pronunciation tones which should be pronounced correctly. All in all, a very difficult language.

Your language looks so complicated I never even thought about trying to learn it. It is very difficult to learn a language where there are no reference points. By that I mean, there are no common root words. In English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Latin I can find the root base in each word and usually figure out what the word means. I cannot do that in the oriental languages. I did teach myself to speak and read hebrew which has a different alphabet and different root bases but it still is not as difficult as Chinese.
I think that most Americans probably feel as I do. It would be very hard to learn Chinese. It is probably hard for you to learn English. Especially our slang words.
