My husband and i did a lot of candle making,we enjoyed it a lot.I had a lot of fun making candles...You can make the candles in any type of glass jar or any glass thing that you just have around the house..You can buy the fragrance that you like and mix them up.To me it was a lot of fun.I made lots of candles and gave some to the kids , my grown up girls and i really enjoyed it..I don't know why your husband would say that..At first when you start it was a little hard but the more you make the better you get at it.As far as i am concerned it is a wonderful hobby..

Maybe it is a certain process that he was talking about. I did look some candle making processes up online and they used some kind of acid. Maybe that has a smell to it?

Paraffin, used as the base wax for most candles, has a very strong odor especially when melting. Some people like it, some people don't so really its subjective. I can tell you for sure it is an expensive hobby though. Although, I do enjoy it very much.

I was thinking about making candles for personal use. We have birds so we can't use certain types of wicks and any scented candles are out of the question. I might go price out how much it would cost since I have a Michaels gift card that needs to be used. What does paraffin smell like? I wouldn't think wax would have an odor. Would it make a difference is you used a different wax as a base, maybe bee wax?

I used to make candles when I was a teenager & I loved it. Of course this was a very long time ago, so I couldn't give your instructions now.
I remember it being easy, fun & certainly not smelly.
It is a fun hobby.
Please try it if you are interested. You can be quite creative with this.
