Help Me Finish My Guitar Room!

Since my daughter moved out, I got to claim her bedroom. Of course, the justification was that I needed a place where I can give guitar lessons...but you know the real reason... I wanted a room that I get to plaster the walls with whatever I want (married men, you know what I mean... married women, you do to, but you'll deny it). ;~D I've done 3 of the walls, but I've left one blank. What I want to put there, I haven't found yet. Not only haven't I found it yet, but I'm only vaguely sure what I want to put there. What I do want is, a huge poster! It can be up to 8 feet wide and 6 feet tall (and yes, I'd prefer one that is landscape instead of portrait). I want one that is either a guitar theme, or one of my favorite bands on stage. Any guitar themed suggestions can be art based, or band based. What I don't want is an individual musician, band logo, or just the members of the band's faces. No nudity, suggestive (or anything else that wouldn't fly in a room where teenagers are being taught how to play guitar. ;~D ). Suggestions with links are appreciated, and encouraged... actually, they are exactly what I'm asking for here. ;~D Just to let you know, yes, I have been surfing eBay, Amazon and other sites. I have seen a few posters that I like, but none have reached out and grabbed me yet. Suggestions for Flags, banners, tapestries, wall rugs and other non-paper wall hangings are also welcome. Come on Mylot, show me whatcha got!

How about making up something of your own...get pictures of classic guitars ..the Les Paul, the Steinburger (sp?) the double neck. Mount them on some plywood then seal it up real nice. You can even have a book to go along and give the background on the specific pictures.

I forgot this contact the manufacturers. They might have free posters that they can send. Are there guitar museums that can help or maybe the rock and roll hall of fame.

I'm going to piggy back on Deb's idea because I was going to suggest mounting a large piece of plywood on the wall since you're renting. My idea for the art is to cover the plywood in sheet music, concert flyers, tickets...whatever other paraphenalia you can get...and then put the silhouettes of various guitars over that either in all black or in various colors.

Go to a headshop or ebay and pick up an enormous blacklight poster. Set up your blacklight within a custom made (and of course painted to match your room) pointed only at the poster so that the blacklight doesn't interfere with your regular light for the lessons. Good luck & ciao4now.

Ah, the days of the headshop, black light posters, black lights, flicker lamps, and strobes... Oh the memories! :~D Unfortunately, The great metropolis of Sheboygan, WI is deader than Jerry Garcia (and not half as Grateful) when it comes to such trinkets. Thanks for the input though.

Have you thought of painting a mural? or if your not artistically inclined getting someone else to paint a mural? They look good and won't tear at the edges over time like a poster would. Another suggestion I could make is look for a really nice rug if you can't find a poster or wall hanging, my friend had a rug nailed to his wall like a wall hanging and it looked great.

I'd love to have someone paint a mural, but I'm renting and my landlord wouldn't appreciate me taking his wall when me and my family end up moving. ;~D Thanks for the suggestions!

Hmmm...I am not very good at helping other people decide how to decorate, especially when I do not know much about the person; but I'll give it a shot anyways, just for the heck of it. My ideas will probably suck, lol. 1. How about collecting a bunch of pictures and posters and go through them to choose one or two or more things in each one that you really like. Cut out the things from each pic that really stand out to you and use them to make one large collage of sorts and put that on the wall. 2. Since you are using the room to teach guitar lessons, Perhaps you could dedicate that wall to your students. For example, hang up a large blank sheet of paper or poster board or something of that sort. Decorate the edges with guitar and music themes, leaving the middle blank. Gradually fill the middle with things that represent significant achievements and whatnot made by your students. Such as a pic of the student with their guitar and a caption underneath describing the achievement or event that it relates to, or something like that. That's all I can think of at this point. Good luck and have fun.
