Why do all the crazy people flock to Wal Mart?

Crazy is probably not the best word I could have used. Maybe rude, inconsiderate, moronic, hillbilly back woods corn fed....ok Crazy will have to do for now.
There is only 1 Walmart in this town of about 35,000. On any given day at any time of day 20,000 are at this WalMart. (slight exaggeration I assure you)
I just survived another excursion to Wally World and here is the condensed version of my experience.
I drove the 9 miles without incident, following behind 8 cars obviously going the same place from the time I left my zip code. I then sat and watched the left turn lane light go from green to red and back again 5 times before I was able to even see the parking lot.
I make the turn then have to sit at the stop sign 100 feet away while a dozen cars from 3 other directions fail to stop at their stop signs. (I had the right of way this entire time)
I then drive the length of this building which is like double the size of my childrens school looking to see if I can see an open spot. I can't. I circle around the last isle and in my rear view I see reverse lights 30 cars back. I get to the end and turn back up the lane I just came down. I sit and wait patiently for the 92 year old lady to back her car out one agonizing inch at a time. My turn signal is on. I am clearly going to take this spot once granny moves her boat.
She finally gets out and pulls enough ahead for me to begin to make the turn when out of nowhere some yo boy (I call him this because of his dread locks and 15 gold chains around his neck) darn near takes off the front of her Caprice classic to whip into the spot. Not only does he see me sitting there but he looks right at me and laughs. (Some people are so lucky walmart won't let you see the ammunition AND the shot guns at the same time)
I circle back around and end up parking what feels like a half a mile away from the entrance. I get inside and get my cart only to be accosted by the little old lady at the door who hands out the stickers for returns and the smiley stickers for the kids. My baby is 17 months old. She does NOT need stickers. Yet she got not one but TWO of them. One for each hand. I'm convinced this woman would have tried to stick one on her forehead as well if it hadn't been hidden under a hat.
It took me longer to park and get in the door than it did to actually acquire the things I went there to get. I will leave out the 20 people who stopped me to comment on how beautiful my daughter is and the 18 people in line at the deli. It is just too much to relive.
Big surprise they have ALL of the self check out lanes closed when I finally get back up front. I pick a lane with 3 people in it ahead of me. I swear to god the first woman paid for her 6 items with change. Mostly quarters mind you but STILL with change! The next two people wrote checks. It had now been an hour from the time I pulled into the parking lot to get my items rung up. My cashier was more interested in making faces at my kid and missed 5 or 6 things and had to go over each line item and through the bags to see what she forgot.
At last. I pay my $53 and I am headed out the door. I have to weave into the mass exodus of other people leaving the store to make it past psycho sticker greater lady.
The pedestrian cross walk is no joke, 100 feet long with stop signs at both ends. The moron who took my parking space nearly took out my cart because he was too busy checking his gold teeth in his mirror as he was backing up.
Today was mild to some of what I experienced while holiday shopping. But still really...
Do any of you ever encounter people like this when you go to WalMart?

I don't really have a problem when I go to Walmart.. ours is a super center and is open 24 hours so I norally go super late at night or really early in the morning. Most of my shopping is done at either Walmart of Costco. I know a lot of the people who work there and none have been a bother to me. Maybe its just the town the one you go to is in.

I'm sure that is it because when I lived in MD I had 3 WalMarts to choose from and so did everyone else so none of them were ever THIS bad on any given day.

Unfortunately I live in a town with NO Targets or K-Marts or BJs, or Costco's Wal Mart is pretty much it.

I am actually a little afraid of my sister's Walmart in Florida. She has two, one is a Super Walmart and the closer one is a regular one. The regular one is the one that makes me nervous, this Walmart has been robbed not once but twice! Who in the heck robs a Walmart?! And it was in the middle of the day, not late at night when there are hardly any people.
We have many many Walmarts around here. There is one that I hate going to, because it is exactly how you decribed.
The most annoying thing about our Walmarts (we have 4 or 5 close ones) is that not a SINGLE one is open 24 hours! I hate that!! They all close at 11, I actually think one closes at 10.
Before I moved to New Jersey I thought all Walmarts were opened 24 hours, boy was I wrong. Even our Walmarts in Mississippi are opened all night.
I soooo can't wait to move from here!

Before they turned this walmart into a super walmart it closed at 11. Now it is opened forever except on Christmas. The only thing that ever gets robbed around here are little mom and pop convenience stores which makes no sense to me. How desperate is someone for $30. No one ever shops at those anymore. They are all at the walmart.

First, I find it interesting that you know this....which must mean you are among the crazy masses that flock there.
Second, it is very simple. It's similiar to the lemmings. It's is inbred in them to flock there. The lemmings do it to die (figure that one out...doesn't seem like a positive trait to carry on....and how doe sit carry on if they all heave themselves off cliffs.....and why can't we get the wal-mart people to do that instead?....but I digress). Anyway, it is an inherited trait passed on from crazy to crazy through the generations. Sort of a family reunion of sorts.

Every single time my dear, EVERY single time. Our local Wal-Mart is the only one for 50 miles in any direction, so everyone from 5 counties shops there. The major problem is getting in to the parking lot, as there is no signal on the highway for the entrance, and there's only the one entrance. (Leaving and having to pull across traffic is even worse, because of the endless stream of incoming customers.)
Once inside, I swear, people are rude. You cannot walk down an aisle that is unobstructed. People seem to think they need to visit with everyone they see that they know. The usually stop in the middle of an aisle and block off whole aisle, one cart going one way, one the other.
Then add to the mix that they cannot seem to leave anything where it is in that store. It seems that whenever I have just gotten used to a particular item being in a certain part of the store, they move it. I never can find anything half the time. For example, they used to keep all of the dog and cat stuff in three aisles in the southwest corner of the store, over by the fish tanks. Now, they have decided that they will keep the cat and dog food there, along with the leashes and whatnot, but if you want to find a flea collar for your dog, you have to head north along the wall, past the potted plants, up in the gardening section along the wall. (Makes sense to me, how about you?)
Then, it seems that they have decided that the are only going to carry some items part of the time. The electronics department is one of the worst. They sell computers, laptops, laptop bags, ect, and routers, but do you think they carry wireless laptop cards (for accessing the internet)? Oh, no, you can only get the usb wireless stick now, that is 50$... Now, if you go online and look for the regular cards, wal-mart does sell them, only not close to here. They even show them online and "available in most stores" for as low as 34$, but, not at our wal-mart.
The self check outs are another issue all together. They have 6 of them, and yes, they are usually all on except late at nite. The problem is, when the machine fails to read something or the scale doesn't recognize it, you wait 10-15 minutes for one of the Associates to come ok your purchase.
Then, upon leaving the store, you have to contend with the people coming in who obviously can't read. EXIT means LEAVING, not COME ON IN THIS DOOR. Apparently people coming in empty handed have no problem cutting someone off, making them slide a cart with 50 pounds of dog food and 20 pounds of cat food, plus groceries, expecting them to be able to come to a halt abruptly because someone waltzed in the EXIT door.
It's not just your wal-mart that is like this.... I think it's this way all over the country.

Well I can say I am taking comfort in the fact that I am not alone. Everything you mentioned I left out of mine happens here too. When I walked in today to go get dog food they had moved it from where it was and put it back where lawn and garden used to be. I think all the managers go through "tormenting customer" training. It has replaced the "customer is always right" training stores used to have.
