Did you know everyone will have to have digital cable in 2009?

I was shocked when I called in to my cable company a while ago for my grandmother and the rep stated that everyone will have to have digital cable in 2009 or they will not be able to receive cable. I thought to myself, this is ridiculous. The rep then explained that it is not Charter's doing. It is the government that came up with this. I guess some things never change. The government will always be about making a dollar. The price of cable will be going up and not everyone can afford it, Most older Americans are on a limited income and may not be able to afford it. While it may not seem like a big deal to the government, it can provide a little bit of pleasure to those older Americans who have worked so hard to make it. I really don't think this is fair. Did you know about this? What do you think about it?

You don't need to have cable but you do need to have a tv that is digital. If you have an old tv it will not work so you will need to buy a box so that you can watch the digital tv. The government in not forcing everyone to subscribe to cable. I actually saw on the news today that the government is giving out $40 certificates do you can go buy the box you need for your older tv's

To request a coupon, consumers can apply online at www.dtv2009.gov. The government also has set up a 24-hour hotline to take requests, 1-888-DTV-2009 (1-888-388-2009).
