My daughter's eyes

Well, I took my daughter to see the specialist about her lazy eye and the lack of vision in it. I loved him! He was so good with her and she actually let him do the eye exam without giving him any problems. He told me to put a patch on her "good" eye every day for four hours and he has put her in classes. She hates wearing the patch because she can't see good, but she knows it's important and wants her eye to be good again. We are hoping that by correcting her sight, it will straighten her eye out. If not we will see about surgery to get it in line. She goes back April 7th for a follow up to see how her eye is doing. I will keep everyone posted!

I will definitely be praying that this works instead of her having to have surgery. I know it must be very difficult to have to adjust to seeing out of the eye she doesn't have very good vision out of, but maybe this will work for her. Definitely keep us posted on how things go and like i said ,I'll be praying for her. God bless

Thank you so much! I know its hard on her so I came up with a few things to make it fun. Like we are getting stickers so she can decorate the patches for when she is wearing them. Plus computer game time, she loves that. Thank you for keeping her in your prays! I will keep you updated!

Making it fun should help her to overcome her not liking to wear it as much. I'm so glad that you are doing something like that. some parents would just get frustrated and say you have to wear the thing so get used to it. I'm so glad you are giving her things to do to make this experience more enjoyable. God bless you

I know what it's like to have to do things that you don't like, so I try to make it fun. We went today and ordered her glasses. She picked out a beautiful pair of glasses that she liked and that were comfortable to her. Then we went and found some stickers and she picked out some. She's not looking forward to putting the patch on, but she is looking forward to decorating them and showing them off. Wearing the patch is something she has to do and if I make it enjoyable she will want to plus it will be less stressful for the both of us.

how old is your daughter?
i had the same thing as a kid. but i had to wear the patch for a year, and not take it off (except to sleep)!!!
i did end up getting surgery, and afterwards had to wear glasses with one 'foggy' lens on the stronger eye - for quite a long time!!!
but eventually it was ok. my eye straightened out, but i think surgery helped because usually they have to go in and fix the muscles which are either too loose or too tight on the eyeball, and that's why it strays.
i hope your daughter's condition improves!

She is eight years old. WOW! For a whole year straight. She will probably continue wearing the patch for awhile. She has to wear it for the next three months. Then we will go to the doctor's again and see where she stands. I hope she doesn't have to have the surgery, but I will do whatever I can to help her. Thank you!

i actually have exactly the same eye problem like your daughter... my parents operate my left eye when i am 2 years old... but as i get older, the eye goes back to its slunting position again and the doctor says that this time they have to operate both eyes... my left eye is lazy and practically not working anymore... so i also undergo theraphy every week and have to put patches in my right eye everyday to force my left eye to see again when i am younger... now, because the risk of operating both eyes is high, i don't dare to take the chance... it is better to have a slunting eyes rather than be blind... that's what my parents say as well... so now i have to wear a prism lense glasses to correct my eyes for the rest of my life... but i don't mind at all... i am still grateful that God gives me eyes and i can still see... i will pray for your daughter and hope that she will get better... it is easier to cure the eyes at the younger age... so definitely force her to put on the patches everyday no matter how she dislikes it... it will make her feel giddy and uncomfortable at first based on my experience... but it will get better... good luck...

I agree, I would rather her eye wonder than for her to be blind. She is doing very good with wearing the eye patch. This is day two and she hates it, always asking is it time to take it off yet. But she isn't trying to peek with her right eye, which is good. I did tell her that once she got use to it, that it wouldn't bother her as bad. Thank you!

I remember this. when I was 5 I had to wear a patch over my right eye for a feew hours a day. Yes I had lazy eye also. I HATED it!. I also started wearing glasses at that time (when my parents could keep them on me). I still have a slight vision imparement in the lazy eye, but the patch thing did help a lot. My eye continued to improve throughout my school years, and nowI don't have to wear glasses except for reading and driving.

She hates the patch as well. She is looking forward to getting her glasses. She wanted to be able to bring them home today, but I told her they had to prepare them first. I am trying to make wearing the patch fun for her. I know it can be fustrating on her because of the lack of sight in the bad eye. So, I thought if I made it fun she would enjoy it more!

I hope and pray that your daughter's eyesight will straighten out! I have a brother who has a lazy eye. Poor man, couldn't drive his car without his contact lenses and couldn't read without wearing both his contacts and his eyeglasses. Anyway, I hope your daughters treatment turns out well. We'll be waiting to hear from you for great news!

Thank you! I hope so too. The doctor seemed to think that with the patches and the glasses her eye sight will improve greatly. Only time will tell right now and I am praying that God will help her through this.

My 5yo daughter goes to the doctor this week to see if she needs a patch to strengthen one of her eyes. She has been wearing glasses since she was 19 months old but at her last visit the doctor said one eye was much weaker then the other. He gave her 3 months to see if her new prescription helped. We'll find out this week. Otherwise she'll be wearing glasses and a patch. Arrrr, you mateys! Lol. (There are going to be a lot of pirate jokes around here if she has to have a patch.)

The patch is an experience in itself. Make it fun for her and it will be easier for the both of you. Oh, and watch out for the peeking. The first time my daughter had to wear the patch she would always peel it back just enough to see with her good eye, but not enough that it was real noticable. lol I'm letting my daughter decorate her patches with stickers. She likes stickers and is excited about putting the stickers on her patch.

When my daughter was 3 she was diagnosed with lazy eye. She endured the eye-patching, and the sight eventually returned in her bad eye. It took time and diligence, though. She is 27 now. Last year she had LASIK surgery, and she now has 20/20 vision in both eyes. So stick with it! How old is your daughter?

She is eight years old. I plan to do everything the doctor told me. He thinks her sight in her bad eye will improve greatly. That's great that it helped your daughter! I hope this helps mine! Thanks for the encouragement!
