Reality shows and Family sitcoms

Seems the wave of the future in TV is reality shows. Survivor, Amazing Race, Big Brother, Biggest Looser, Beauty and the Geek, Ameircan Idol and the list goes. I only watch Suvivor so can't exactly comment on the others, but I do watch the FoodNetwork reality shows are so good - those people actually have to have multiple talents and literally think on their feet and have multiple skills and talents. Okay, back to the question - are you tired of reality shows? And whatever happened to family sitcoms? I don't see a single show on TV these days that is fit to watch with the kids. the early 90's was the last of the hilarious 1/2 hour family sitcoms. Do you miss the 1/2 hour funnies? OR would you rather watch reality?

I'm not that big a fan of reality shows. I watched a couple of survivor ones but other than that not many. However, a lot people seem to like and a very big mistake the writers may be making by striking is that it will result in a lot more reality shows and there will be a lot of writers out of work. So the working ones may gain a little, but there may be a large unemployment problem for them.

Funny you should mention that. I had thought about that same thing. There are more "film editors" than writters for reality shows. And if that is the wave of shows to continue... could be a problem. i was wondering what hte deal was when the writers went on strike and none of hte talk show hosts could do anything - I thought all those monologes and one-liners and such were the comedian/host own creations! I didn't know (but then again, I don't follow it much, I get so tired of celebrities) that someone else writes all their jokes...maybe the writters should stop wiriting for others and write for themselves! You mean Jay Leno isn't really funny on his own? Okay, that was a loaded question!

I am so not into the reality shows - I get enough "reality" all day long. When I watch TV (which isn't very much) I want something brainless that can give me a good chuckle or keep me awake. I can't stand all the negativity and bickering with the reality shows. They're designed to show people working against each other not together and I don't care for that.
Since there really isn't anything else to pick from on the TV, I just don't watch it. I goof off on the computer or work.

I'm with you on that! I can't think of a single show on TV these days that I enjoy watching. Gilmore Girls was the last one. Ugly Betty was funny at first, but getting annoying. Other than that, I watch TV Land and the Food Network! LIke you said, I want to be entertained, not have to work so hard to keep up with the story, "hold on" through the commericals and deal with the fast pace it all is so as to get so much in within the what, 42 minutes an hour show really is? (hald hour sitcoms were really only 18 minutes!) To much work! I'll chat on MyLOt!

I'll never get tired of reality shows. I think the problem with Family Sitcoms is that everything's been done already and it's hard for a show to last more than a few seasons. Most the Family shows I watch are reruns of shows that only were on a few years. I think there are TONS of shows to watch with Kids as I still watch the Disney Channel and Nick on a regular basis. Those shows are entertaining for adults and still wholesome for kids.
As for me, I like reality more now then the 1/2 shows b/c reality can be so random and unpredictable!

I do think that reality shows are getting out of hand now. Any channel you turn to there is a reality show on. I do watch a very limited amout of them (of course I watch American Idol) but as for seeing one every hour of ever day is ridiculous. There should be some more family shows on tv. There really is not much fro parents and children to watch after 6pm. I hope that in then next few years people realize that reality tv shows are not reality and that good shows come back into reality.

My thoughts exactly. I don't particularily have a problem with reality, just that there are so many, the "storyline" is getting old.

Except for The Simpsons , I haven't seen or heard of a hilarious sit com since the 80's.And the only reality shows I see are Miami Ink. L.A. Ink, and London Ink.I don't know what happened to the " family" hour. All I do know is a sit com needs a writer and with the writer's strike , there will be more reality shows than sit coms. And by then, there will be too many on t.v.

i never really get to watch t.v anymore but when i do it is usually a reality show.i have been into australian idol last year as my daughters best friend was in the top 12,so we had to watch that.i also love the amazing race and a few others.as far as family sitcoms i have not really liked what i have seen on t.v.i much rather watch re-runs of hogan's heros or something like that, which the kids think is funny.cheers sue

TV Land is the best! I watch it more than 'regular" channels. I still lauagh at them and they are just so much fun to watch. You know you'll get a laugh and it will be good clean fun for all.

I honestly have a huge problem understanding the big popularity of reality shows. But that's just me, I guess, given that apparently millions of people disagree.
I don't really have any specially interest in seeing people struggling to win a race, loose weight, get married or anything else that they're throwing at us. I have my own life, and my own struggles thank you very much:)
As for family sitcoms, I like them a little bit more and I guess I miss some of them. THey made me laugh and feel good and I sometimes watched although I wouldn't go out of my way to watch them.
If you ask me which one I would rather waste my time with? Definitely the funnies:)
Nay to the reality shows.

Jesus Christ I hope not. I'm now going to have nightmares at the prospect that "reality" TV shows won't be outlawed and the networks won't be tarred and feathered for creating such abominations.

I like some of the reality shows that ae on. I love to watch biggest loser and american idol and canadian idol. But I think that's about all that I watch. I do miss the sitcoms that are funny. I still watch the old ones like archie bunker and married with children, but it would be nice to see some new ones come out. I also watch some of the newer old ones like family guy and king of queens but like I said it would be nice to see some new ones come out.

I would not get tired of this reality shows as long as it entertains me, why not. What I'm tired of though, is the trending just like what has been said here.
