We have a room in the attic where all of my dad's compact discs and laser discs (remember them?) are kept in. That room also serves as our "tv and music room" because that's where we spend the night watching DVD or VCD.
I came across an antique turntable of my dad's. That's where you play the big music black discs (i dunno how you call them) if you don't know.. you may refer to the picture below to see what it looks like.
Do you have still have them??:)
Do you keep them?
It's good to keep some old stuff for showing to your kids in the future. haha.

Hello dear glitzpurple. Yeah, I have to agree that it is good that we have sometimes very old stuff for showing to our kids either now or in the future so that they would learn more about how technology has been developing so fast at an incredible speed for some comparison...

Oh, yeah. "turntable", from the picture, I can tell that you are talking about the gramphone. My bother used to have one gramphone, but later it was given to someone else when tape-recorders came to the market. I am so sorry that the old gramphone is not kept. Thanks for asking, dear glitzypurple.

hehehe They are called record players and records. I am surprised you don't know this. I just looked at your age in your profile and you are 25 years old so you should know this. My daughter is your age and she knows what they are called. Anyways, I don't think of them as antique, isn't that funny. We, my hubby and I, still use ours and we love it. We have a lot of older records as well as lots of new ones, since they are still available in some music stores. You can also get needles for the record player still and that's a good thing because they only last about 6 months and have to be replaced, if you play as much music on them as we do.

haha i see from your profile you are in your 20's...it seems so strange for me that a 20-something year old finds a turntable "antique". i am only 10 years older than you, and i don't think records (yes the big round black things haha) are such an antique thing.
it's true most people don't use them anymore, but they are still popular with dj's or scratch/hip-hop artists.
i have all my old records, and sometimes i even buy new ones. they are not easy to find these days, but yes, you can still buys some in good music stores or if you don't mind used records, online.
i have 3 turntables in my house and one in my parents' house :)
for sure, i don't use them very much, but i like to keep them around and listen to older music which i don't have on cd! :)
some day soon, cd's will be considered "antique" too ;)

well you mean a record player, yes we still have one, but what you have is not an antique (to be an antique, the item has to be over 100 years old!!)
but on the flip side, even funnier then showing records to the kids is to tell my kids is about 8 - track tapes!

Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about!
I wish I would have kept the ones I had! But not too long ago, a friend of mine had one, and he passed it on to me when he broke up with his girlfriend!
It is a large console that has a turntable, for playing 33 1/3rpm, and 45rpm black record discs! And it also has an 8 track tape player and radio, and they all work!
One of these days it will be worth a lot of money, so I'm gonna keep it in working condition!
