I am just curious...I know we keep on using these items and when we purchase them there was no expiration indicated on it.So do you actually know the expiration of these items: 1)bed mattress 2)pillows 3)toothbrush 4)make up kits 5)lipstick How long do you keep using them and when to dump them?

mattress, pillows, toothbrushes I replace as needed - it just depends on when they 'wear-out'. I don't wear lipstick so can't say on that one and 'make up kits' I only wear mascara, eyeliner, and blush - the first 2 I replace at least every 6 months and blush when it runs out.

Yes faith, I do the same thing on the first three items you mentioned.I am fond of using lipstick, so it runs out at least 2-3 months for me, no worry for that including eyeliner. For the blush on and mascara, I don't wear it often only ocassionally.

I have noticed since I've been working from home there are weeks that I don't wear any make-up at all. I missed church a few weeks because of lack of gas and being sick and went 4 weeks without touching make-up. It's funny because at one time I wouldn't leave the house without my mascara at least.

I was told by the person that cleans my carpets that a matress can increase in weight by 50% over the life of 10 years because of mites. YUCK! A toothbrush every three months it should be replaced or when you see the bristles are getting worn. Make-up -- there was a show about this on TV (Tyra Banks or something) and I forget but it is like a couple years or something. Ditto for the lipstick.

Yes, I forgot about the pillows... we have mattress cover on the matress and pillow covers on the pillows (that have a zipper on them) that will make them last longer than just putting on the pillowcase. I shave only once a month or so (use an electric razor to go down to stubble) and use shaving soap and shaving brush when I do shave to get the closest shave possible... and use a razor that is ceramic (no rusting!). Great information though.

I was just watching good morning America today, and it was mentioned that due to hygiene and health issues, mattress should be replaced at least 7 years, pilllows at least 3 years or when it gets less fluffy and uncomfortable for the user, toothbrush at least 2-3 months or when bristles worn out, make up and lipstick 6 months or so. In addition, it was mentioned that a DISPOSABLE SHAVER should be trashed after using for at least 7 shaves only, aqs the blades could gets rusty and would be a source of infection or sort of injury.

I know on these items no expiration days are written. But i think we should change them after a certain period. Pillows and mattresses can be cleaned and sterilized. will change them when still the condition is bad. toothbrush should be changed atleast once in a quarter. make up should not be used after 2-3 yrs. same for lipsticks.

You're right! Not like the food we purchased, expiration is a must.It surely takes a commonsense to replaced it.Great participation subha.

Mattresses are normally made for 15, 20 or 25 years but that really depends on how they are cared for. You should use a mattress pad, flip the mattress regulary and vacuum it to. I believe the rule of thumb on pillows is to fold it in half, if it stays that way, out it goes. If it immediately unfolds itself it is probably fine. Toothbrushes I think are suppose to be replaced after 2 months. Make up, if the colour changes, or it has a sour smell. Mascara should be replace every 4-6 months.

I think that they are all common sense things that is why there is no expiration date on them, for instance, if your bed breaks, or gets too uncomfortable, you should probably replace it! If your pillows go flat and get too dusty, you should probably replace them. If your toothbrush gets all bristley and fuzzy, you should replace it, although i have heard that you should replace your toothbrush every six months or so because of the bacteria growth that can buildup on it. yummy. Also make up, i dont wear it but i watch those shows like .. tyra banks sometimes and i hvae heard on there that you should replace your make up every 6 - 12 months because it can go back and start to cause you eye infections, like your eyeliner and mascarra. I am glad i dont wear that stuff.. have you ever heard how its made. ? ew. same with lipstick i guess. If it runs out or it gets crappy, time for a new one!

Practically wise of you sissygirl! That makes a perfect sense. Well, I heard that make ups are made from hormones or taken out from the placenta. As hormones shed off once a month, so I guess make ups and lipstick would do as well,LOL!

I don't think there's an expiration date for any of these. When they appear to old to be used again, or starting to wear out, you need a new item. For example when a toothbrush becomes soft and it's hairs are all scattered you need a new one etc

For me: 1. bed mattress - until I can feel the spring or it is too soft. 2. pillows - when it is too flat. 3. toothbrush - once a month. 4. make up kits - I am a guy so I do not know. 5. lipstick - same as no 4 above. There you go.

Comfortability and efficiency of the use of such items is the key on retaining them and when its worn out there goes our dumping syndrome....LOL!
