Where Did You Get Married - or where do you want to get married?

I am going to be married for the second time exactly 7 months from now. We have tossed around countless ideas and are both to the point of just running away to Las Vegas and getting it done by an Elvis impersonator at the Chapel O' Love. Ok, so not quite to that point yet but the planning is driving us crazy. First we were going to do it on 7 mile beach in Grand Cayman at sunset. But his niece's graduation in May is going to put a strain on other family members finances who wanted to attend. We then thought about the Outer Banks in North Carolina. More people then we would expect can actually attend that one and it would be more costly for us to do it there then it would be to do it on an island. (crazy isn't it) During one of our many discussions I said screw it and that we can just do it at the court house on any Friday afternoon. Neither of us are really keen on that idea but it would get all the headaches out of the way. That is until our families found out about it and disowned us. So I'm looking for new ideas. Where did you myLotters get married? Was it a big ceremony? How much did it cost? How much planning went into it? Any input would be really helpful. Thanks!

I *want* to get married on a beach or a cruise ship. There's nothing I love more than the ocean. Unfortunately, I live in a desert and can't afford to have a destination wedding. I *am* getting married at Caesar's Palace. It's a little pricey compared to other places, but it's gorgeous and not quite as expencive as other places.

I was born, raised and live in Las Vegas. As was my fiance. I don't see why we need to get married away from home just because a few drunken idiots decided to go to the drive-thru. People like Spears is why the liscencing office started closing at 8 pm instead of being 24 hours.

I'm glad to hear that some good came out of that woman. It's not just her though, everyone makes the Vegas jokes and what happens in vegas stays in vegas. Since you are from there you know more about it then someone who has never even been there like me who only has the TV shows to show me what it is like. I know it is beautiful though my grandmother used to to Vegas every year when she was healthy and her pictures of some of the hotels and casinos are just breath taking. As long as you are both happy with it that is all that matters.

The ocean has become my favorite place since my vacation in 2007. I used to go to Ocean City in MD all the time and was never really impressed but after snorkeling in the Caribbean Sea with wild stingrays, nurse sharks, and moray eels, it has truly become my favorite place on earth. I want to go to Vegas but I don't think I would like to get married there. It's like an omen. Just look at Britney Spears. LoL

First off me and loungy and skinny want an invite !!!LOL!! Second I say grab some some family the important ones and have a small ceremony at what ever local church or what not you want. Then Have a receptions where everyone is invited to explain to all that you wanted to keep it small. But if you save money by doind an extremely small ceremony with only the poeple that will kill you if they're not there and then a larger reception then everyone is happy...

Either way there could still be a wedding going on but then agian she just might postpone it to go to utah I wonder if it can work the other way around instaed of many wives many husbands. so Cyn you up for becoming morman (sorry about the spelling) that way you can have both. Oh on a side bar maybe you can have friend and family cook and cater the reception and find a nice outside location to hold it that way you can really cut down on cost.

I'm not into big weddings. The planning, the cost, and everything else that comes with a big wedding is something I would rather avoid. And with the divorce rate being as high as it is, who wants a big fancy wedding nowadays anyway? Sorry to say that, but I just don't understand the need to go all out for such an event. My husband and I got married downtown at the county clerks office. As we eloped we had one of the people working there be a witness. It cost us under $100 dollars to be married. It was a sweet ceremony too. I only regret one thing about it, and that is I forgot to bring the camera! But at least my husband and I still have the memories. :)

It looks like it did cynical. I've been married to my husband for the past 12 years (it'll be 13 next month). :) Wow, it took all those years to get your divorce finalized? I think it took my parents about a year here in California, though I'd have to ask either of them to be certain.

ROFL. Too funny. My first marriage lasted 5 and a half years but that was mostly because of how long it takes to get a divorce in the state of MD. We were officially over 15 months after we said I Do. The rest was just waiting for everyone else to agree with us.

If I was to get married again, I think I would go very simple on the ceremony, but, follow it up with an event where all my friends and family join in. Not a party, but, an event, like everyone going to Disney for 3 days, you could them be together with those you really care about, but, still have some private time. I see you mentioned the Outer Banks, a friend of ours got married in the nature reserve on the beach in the area just north of the Virgina state line, south of Virgina Beach, it was beautiful, so, I was told. I don't know as I wasn't invited!

Some friend. A guy I know is getting married there this spring but I was never big on that idea. There are so many state parks here that if I want beauty I don't have to leave the county. I think the ceremony is going to be very small and the reception is just going to be one big party.

My first marriage was in a beautiful old mansion we rented and it was very cool. My second was outdoors in a beautiful park and had a lot more planning. My third well who knows, hopefully three times is a charm but I still need to get a steady before I think to hard on that one.

Yes it's always good to have the steady before sending out wedding invitations. LoL I like the park idea. Since we are getting married in August and it rarely rains here then I might feel safe enough planning something outdoors.

The park thing was absolutely beautiful. we did have a rain issue up until the last minute which dropped me to my knees in deep prayer for a while but the sun came out literally as the service was to begin and with all the rain drops on the beautiful botanical gardens in this park the pictures were amazing. Good luck on number two and god bless you.

I want to get married at ADAPT action. ADAPT is this radical, disability rights group that I belong to. We gather every six months (or so) to fight for the rights of disabled people. I've been to two wedding there and as far as I'm concerned someone who doesn't want to get married there, doesn't want to marry me- period. If they have a "special place" and want to get married there, too, that's fine. We can have as many ceremonies, as needed, as long as one is at ADAPT.

It is nice that you would have another ceremony so your sweetie can have what they want as well. It's also nice to see that you already have your place picked out. I'm learning that is the hardest part of all of this.

Is there anywhere that is special to the two of you? Somewhere that may be a little different but fun? My husband and I got married at the Grand Canyon Deer Farm. The reason we picked that is because it was somewhere we had been to several times together when we would go visit my brother at college, so it was special to us. We were the first (and as far as I know the only) to get married there. We had a justice of the peace come to the Deer Farm, had parents, grandparents, and siblings only, and had a great time. I have pictures of the deer eating my bouquet while we were saying our vows. The next week we had a big reception for the family and friends since we wanted the actual wedding to be small. Is there anything like that that may work for you?

That is why we initially picked Grand Cayman. That vacation did so much to strengthen our relationship. we both considered it to be the point of no return for us. We still have the option of going there alone this summer and getting married but I know he really wants certain members of his family there. Other than that we both really enjoy horseback riding. Maybe we can incorporate that into something. Thanks for your input and your wedding sounds like it was amazing. I'd be looking at the deer eating my bouquet like it was about to be tonight's dinner though.

I would have to travel half way across the state I live in to find an actual horse ranch. The closest I can come is horse back riding at a state park but maybe they would allow us to rent horses for a wedding. That is a great idea. Thanks so much for your comment.

I dreamt of having a beach wedding, but it never happened and didn't occur to me that it was winter time, so we cross that idea out. My husband and I got married at a methodist church where he is a member, it's just 5minutes away here at home, North Carolina too. It was a small ceremony and very simple. We didn't spend a lot on it, because most of his family and our friends pledges on everything, so we just end up spending on my gown and just food. Some pledges on my make up, the reception are, the cooking, the limo, the hotel, invitation and the honeymoon. Getting married is the most wonderful I have ever had. It's a mixed feeling of happy, nervous, excited, dreamy--all at the same time. After the ceremony, you can definitely tell yourself, "I am so happy".. Goodluck to you and best wishes!
