i have seen, read and heard a lot of accidents, and the reason is because of listening music with earphones and they cant hear the warning signs of the accident before it occurs. i only use earphones when listening to music while travelling on train and bus and i just put earphone on one ear so i can hear what is happening around me.

If I'm at home or someone else is driving, I use both earphones, but if I'm walking alone, even during midday, I only use one. During the evening walks I take, I prefer to leave my music at home..that way I have both ears to hear someone who may be trying to sneak up behind me.

My question is, why would you be using headphones while driving? I mean, most cars have a stereo system, at very least a radio, you could just put your music in there, why would you need headphones? I listen to my CD player with headphones in both ears most of the time, but I don't drive. I am usually walking or on the bus when I use them. The only times I only put the one ear in is when I am at home on the computer using them, and my kids are in the other room, or if I am walking somewhere singing along, and I want to make sure I am hitting the right notes.

Okay. I must have misunderstood. I feel like if you are walking, even if you have both headphones in, you should be paying attention to your surroundings. And if you are walking alone at night, you shouldn't have them in at all. Otherwise if you are on a bus or train, whether you see the danger coming or not, it will still happen unfortunately because you aren't the driver, and have no control. Thanks for straightening me out.

I rarely listen to music. So i dont use headphones. Sometimes we listen to the radio in the car, or my hubby will put on some crappy stuff from on the computer, but usually i like the sound of sweet silence when i can get a peice of that action. Oh yea baby!

i usually use both earphones because it makes me appreciate and feel the music more. when i only use one, it feels like something is missing. and i like my music to be loud enough that i can hear it clearly and nothing else. ^__^;; i don't drive anyway and i usually ride public passenger vehicles so i guess, there's no danger for me there. ^__^

LOL but seriously, i do think i'm far from that kind of danger. ^__^ maybe or luck or something. thanks for the concern roni. domo arigato gozaimashita. ^__^

I agreed with you, because sometimes it is danger when you are walking or riding in the road, you can't hear the warning signs of the accident before it occurs, but if we put earphone on one ear,we can't get good quality music, and we can't appreciate good music, that is terrible, right? so it is really illogicality

of course I put it on both ears,it brings me perfect feeling. But I donnot do it when I ride my bike,it is dangerous.Listening to the music just for relexing and donnot think too much.I think it is not necessery to focus on one thing.

I like to have both on whenever I am commuting. I don't wear them at all when doing activities that require my attention like driving, but when I am studying in the library or riding a train or the bus, I prefer to have the earphones covering or in both of my ears because it helps drown out a lot of the ambient noise that goes on around me while I am trying to relax. There are possibilities for accidents, but I am usually pretty careful so I don't feel as though I need to worry all that much about having both ears covered by earphones.

I think it's a very bad habit.. yet I put it in both ears :s specially if I'm working, reading, writing or painting... I like being isolated from others while doing the above. Plus when I travel using any mean of transportation.. I hate the noises and music is the only thing that gives me peace of mind... I hope no accidents happen to me :p

haha same here! Well the only time I use an earphone is when I'm listening to music at work. And I only put the earphone in my left ear, coz if I were to listen to music with both ears, I might not hear when my boss or colleagues are calling me haha.

yup that sounds dangerous. I always wonder about drivers of cars that have loud rock music blasting out. If they can't hear anything, I'm sure they can't hear a car blasting their horn at them to warn about an impending accident. Personally, sometimes i listen with one earphone in the office so i can hear if someone is calling me. If they are having a meeting and it's noisy so i can't concentrate on my work, I will put two earphones so I drown out the noise and can concentrate.

I do the same thing! I only use my earphones when I travel. I listen to music just to kill time and I wont get bored. Anyway, its hard to cross the street if you're wearing an earphone. You wont know if something will hit you at the blind side. I had this one experience where I was wearing my Headphones while crossing a street around our neighborhood. As I was walking I noticed something bumped my left wrist. Turned out that a car stopped right there and he was honking his horn at me! After that, never again did I use my earphones while crossing any street.

woa... you must be terrified when that happens. it is really dangerous when you wear both earphones even if it is just at low volume. is your wrist okay?
