How to make extra money with ebay

I need to make some extra money and some folks have suggested selling things on eBay.
What do I need to know? Does it work? Is it worth the trouble? What are the seller fees? I didn't see anything about that on their "hoe-to" site but read some postings on myLot that the fees are high.
Any myLot folks who can teach me the ropes?
