Where do curse words come from?

Seriously. Where did curse words originate? Who decided that these words were "bad"? I mean, take the word "B" for instance (female dog)
Who was it that decided that the word for a female dog should not be allowed to be said? What makes a word profane?

I think words are all about the delivery, it depends how it is said, I think most words these days are just words and can be funny or can be profane as you say, it just depends in what context and the delivery. When I was at school I can remember the word "shut up" was classed as a swear word, how good is it that things have changed...
