Is Global Warming an Issue?

We hear a lot about global warming through media these days. What bothers me is that if the consequences of global warming are what we are told then why don't the authorities take strict actions against the elements that are responsible for global warming?, wouldn't it makes us immune to such things when we always get to hear about them and don't do any thing to stop it? or does global warming issue has something to do with politics?
