My friend is using his old calendars to create new wallpaper.

My friend has the most depressing wallpaper in his bedroom. I only saw it once, we tore down his bed and moved it, then rebuilt it in a different spot. Large black stripe then large white, then large gray. Very awful. He wants to use his old calendars as wallpaper. He's got some really cool calendars. Tibetan Monk calendars, flowers, scenery, Asian architecture, healing herbs, etc. This sounds like a really cool idea to me. What do you think? Have you ever done anything similar? Any words of advice? I'm worried that the wrong adhesive will ruin the calendars. He wants to use wallpaper paste, will that work? The mountain ranges and some of the awesome stuff he has, I'd hate to ruin it. Thanks for any advice you can give.

If it was me, I'd paint the walls like a soft neutral color (maybe powder blue) and then frame the pictures and hang them. Even if he uses wallpaper paste, once they are up he won't be able to take them down if he moves or changes his mind. If the calendar pictures are that awesome I wouldn't want to waste them and never be able to use them again. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I see what you're saying. Makes sense. But I know my friend and once he gets an idea into his head. . .. Also, he'd need a hundred picture frames.

Maybe he could buy like 10 different frames and switch the pics every couple of months...that way he wouldn't get bored with the same ones all the time. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

That's a different idea. We'll see.

I would go to the wallpaper section of Home Hardware and ask for their advice. Wallpaper is much different from calender paper that consists of 20 lb pound, some being photograhic and the backing is entirely different from the one on wallpaper. Wallpaper is designed to come off easy if you use the right remover, whereas if he decides to change the scenes, the calender pictures will come off in strips and in portions. He may have to glue them to a wallpaper backing if he wants to keep them intact.

I was wondering about the weight and the finish. Most of our Hardware stores are so small, the section you ask in doesn't matter, but at Lowe's and larger ones, it would. You make some really good points, will pass on the information.

I think the idea of asking at the hardware store is a good one, but does he really want that much scenery on his walls? It sounds like overload to me! Clashing colors, very, very busy... I wouldn't be able to sleep with all that energy surrounding me! LOL

If he does it collage style, it could be seriously wild. But if the moutain pictures are on top and surround the room, then houses, etc. There could be a way to make it feel like a really cool room. Take care and thanks for your response.

I hope that your friend is happy with his creatively thought out wallpaper. He had such a very good idea when he wasn't able to afford to completely redecorate his room. When I was a student I had a room overlooking the River Thames. I cut up travel brochures and I put travel pictures to brighten up my room. The pictures of the tropical islands and beaches made me feel quite happy. They were about my future dreams and I did travel to islands and beaches just like those when I was older. Maybe with the pictures of the mountain ranges your friend may one day climb mountains.

Beautiful, you put up pictures of your dreams. Then you went out and lived them. How wonderful! Alas, my friend has a degenerative disease. He has difficulty walking and soon will be in a wheelchair, maybe permanently, but he is going through some operations and they may restore some abilities for 5 to 10 years. He's in his 60s and I don't think he will ever climb those mountains, but he may still drive them or I may drive him. Thanks and take care.

I think it's a really creative idea. Don't know about the paste. I'd go to the hardware store and ask some advice. When we were kids, my mom decorated each of our rooms differently. In my brothers room my mom used comic pages from the local paper to decorate his walls. It looked really awesome.Have your friend take it slowly. See if he likes it. If he decides he doesn't it will be easier to change if there is less on the walls.

Didn't think about asking people at the hardware store. Your Mom sounds really cool. I so would have like a comic wall paper. I think my friend will like anything better than what he's got. Thanks for the ideas, do you know what your Mom used to stick the comic pages up?
