I have been up nonstop since last night watching the weather via a live stream online (www.waff.com) in my area. There was a line of storms they thought would grow weak but got stronger and it has produced a tornado in Mississippi a little bit ago that did damage. Now they're expecting severe weather and possible tornadic activity in my city by 3pm until 9pm. It's the worse they've seen in this area in a long time. I'm MAJORLY freaking out!!! We don't have a weather kit (shame on me I know) so I threw some things together quick in a bucket and put it downstairs. My main concern is that my apartment is over 40 yrs old and not very sound and we don't have an interier room with no outside walls or windows that we could hide in. Our bathroom is upstairs and has a small window. My mother is on her way home from work (after I called like 10 times, lol) so that calms me a bit but since things are producing so fast, I won't be ok till I see her home. I'm having horrible feelings about this weather, even the weather guy on tv is freaking out a bit. I just ask that those who can say a quick prayer for those in my area (Huntsville, AL) so everyone stays safe and no lives are lost during these really bad storms. Thanks a million in advance!

I just read how you narrowly escaped the horrific weather that was predicted for your area. See..there was nothing to freak out about...LOL..I know I'm making light of it, but honestly there are times I'd like to punch out these weather guys...NYC is not usually noted for tornadoes but a few months ago, guess what..yup..a tornado touched down in the Brooklyn area of NYC..I'm in Queens and even WE felt the winds here. I was watching how the wind was affecting the trees right out in front of my apt. building..I NEVER saw them sway and bend like that and I thought for sure they were going to fall down. And what ticked me off the jerk newsmen had NO prediction of tornado type weather..then other times they predict real dire, terrible blizzards...and nothing happens!
Bottom line...you just NEVER know. But the weather has been really weird all over. I'll still keep you in my prayers though that you don't have any REAL episodes to deal with..and gmakesmoney...CALM DOWN!! (((HUGS)))

You slept 17 hours? Wow. Hope you feel more rested now though and a lot less frazzled. Yes, I guess our prayers helped huh?? Not exactly good news where the tornados might have hit though...have you heard of any of the damage they created elsewhere?

lol, I calmed down that night once I knew everything was over with. Then I slept for like 17 hours straight to make up for the 2 days of sleep I missed, lol. A tornado in NY, that's odd! I'm not surprised that they missed it though, that's how it was when I was in MA. Our weather guys are usually really good, they have all kinds of state of the art stuff and are super involved with the schools and the community to make sure that every stays weather aware and prepared for emergencies. They're always super calm even during the big things so when they started to freak, I knew they were expecting it to be ugly. It was supposed to be the worst in almost 20 yrs but then it did an exact curve around my city limits and hit in all directions around us except for us. I guess prayers really do work!

The prayers worked great and yes I do feel really bad for the places that it did hit. I believe it killed some children in a school one state over, 5 kids I think it was. And damage to homes and buildings. The thing with the kids is that a lot of parents down here complain about schools closing early and them having to go out of work to pick them up and then nothing happening. So a lot of school have started to not close early... which often times put schools busses out there right when the weather hits. That school didn't close early.

I'm not in a tornado area so I really don't know much about preparing for one but is there anyway you can move furniture...like the couch and some mattresses, the kitchen table, anything big and sturdy really... to make a little shelter in case it does get bad? Maybe even set it up using the kitchen cabinets for protection since they combined with the wall will be stronger than a wall alone. I don't really know, I just hope things don't get very intense and I'll be watching for any news from there. You have my thoughts and prayers!

Thanks so much! I'm fine, actually right as the really bad part of the line of storms was going to hit my city, it surprised all the weather pros and started to move North really fast instead. So there was damage directly sound north and west of my city but nothing in my city itself. What a blessing!

Oh I know! I was watching the weather channel specifically to keep an eye on where you are and it looked like the line of really bad stuff just curved right around you. Of course I still feel bad for the people it did affect but I happy it went around you!

Aww thanks, that's sweet. Yes I feel bad for them too but I'm so glad that it passed us. It was odd the way it made almost a complete circle around the city, the weather men were stumped.

To live in an area where there is hurricanes and tornados would drive me bananas. I live in CA we do have earthquakes but it has been years since we have had any earth quakes in our area. We live in Central CA an the most we have to worry about is heat and drouts.
I am three days late and I hope you are fine.

We have the heat and the droughts too, we're having our worse one yet now and most cities are on water restrictions and a lot of farms had to shut down. It does drive me crazy, the weather here is the one thing I'll never get used to well that and the sun. I swear the sun shines so bright here, it's so strong. I grew up on the beaches of MA and we had sun but nothing like it is here, I need shades year round here. The hurricanes hit more the south part of the state that sits on the gulf but since I'm in the upmost northern part of the state, the most we get from them is rain and wind. It can get pretty scary though and those are the only times I miss my snowy home, lol.
