How do you demonstrate your ability?

If you got a new job, or you were in office, how do you demonstrate your ability, so as to promote, or give a raise.

actually on my work place im the only person who can speak english well...although i work in an english language institute,,some of my co workers cannot speak fluently..so i make them envy by talking english...they offer me good salary..hehe

Well I think to demonstrate my abilities the only way is to perform my given duties at the highest level leaving a very little space for complaint.That is the way I think I would demonstrate my abilities.In todays world it becomes absolutely necessary to show your best as it comes down to cut throat competition.Then only you can survive.Well thats how you should be also.You should be noticable and not rather smoeone in the crowd.
