If you're newbie I suggest this Ubuntu rather: http://hubpages.com/_hubpagesblog/hub/Wubi no need to format and partitin your disk.

Sure but Wubi is better than LiveCD

Personally I rather use Mandriva linux than Ubuntu, It has a much better package manager and I personally think that it's the best OS i've encountered (and that means a lot..), try it, you won't be disappointed.

thank you for your recommendation. i'm a windows user and a newbie to linux. i think i have to try so many linux providers before freezing into the one of my choice!
