When my spouse and I were newly married, we had a theft. Married less than a month, we hadn't planned on insurance yet. We lost thousands and special wedding gifts, never to be replaced. Having no insurance meant the loss was not covered. Now, if I rent a home or apartment, renter's insurance is one of the first things I put on my to-do list.
