For a longtime. there has been talk of Tata coming out with a low cost people's care in India. The goal of the car was to provide an affordable car for folks who would otherwise settle for a two wheeler. The target cost was One Lakh Indian Rupees(about 2500 USD). It was said that "The People's Car" was impossible to produce. Tata just proved the wrong naysayers wrong. The Tata Nano is the cheapest car in the World!! The car is a five seater, four door with 30-horsepower 624-CC engine, a four-speed manual transmission, a disc/drum brake setup with a mileage of 20 KMPL on highway(roughly 56 miles per gallon). Not bad for the segment the car is targeted at.

Its definetely an interesting developemnt. Its great to have a car for a common person. On the flip side..I find the car lacking on several protective and important features. Also ..we have to bear in mind the raising fuel prices...and may be it would cost the common man ..more than his two wheeler...and another important is the pollution...If it creates polution ..Its not people friendly. That doesnot in any way...deny the TATA engineers their credit. They are the manufactures of the "world cheapest car" which is not a mean achievement.

I fear for the transportation cost which if added upto the car's price will make the car touch INR 1.5 Lakhs(and also a recent study says Maruti's base model 800 is also going to cost the Indians some were above 1.75 Lakhs). I'm getting to know more about The People's Car slowly everyday. A recent discussion which i heard says, TATA has tied up for its electric component with BOSCH for high quality low price product, and BOSCH people took it as a challenge and delivered the components successfully. Lets see what new i come to know today.

Its really a revolution in Automobile industry. Hats off to TATA. They always care for the common man. It is a good option for small medium class family. I have heard that it will be released to market by Mid October & I am looking forward to buy one.

Yes, even i have heard that it wil be officially launched in the second half. I'm sure it will atleast take morethan a years time to get launched in other countries as d consumption of dis vehicle is can be tremendous in India itself.
