When do you rate someone negative? Is it when they are being disrespectful and rude? Or because they don't agree with you? I'm just curious to know because I see many people with less than perfect ratings and I don't get it. Some members have very low ratings however I've never seen them being rude. I'm not saying there isn't any rude people here, I've seen my share! I rate every discussion I read, every reply I receive and they are all positive whether you agree with me or not. Now if you tell me off and harrass me I might not be so nice in return. I surely don't agree with every discussion here and I try to bring my point accross as respectful as I can just as I would expect from anyone responding to my own discussions. but I wouldn't rate someone negative because we have a different point of view! What do you do?

I have never rated anyone negatively. I see no point to it. I do give good ratings when I remember to do so. I dont always agree but I dont feel the need to be negative. We are all allowed our views. Right?

Absolutely!! which is why I find it stupid to start with. There should only be one rating and that's if the post is abusive!

I try to rate them positive most of the time but does it affect your pay out or not? I'm still very confused about this all. I have only been on here about a month or so and still don't know. I only gave one negitive rating because they told me i should starve my child because she is fussy then she will learn to eat what is put in front of her...sorry i didn't like that one....but all others i usually do a positive rating. I still wonder if it will affect your pay out as well if some one puts you as the best response. Does that help you pay as well. I'm not on here for the money either. Its just fun to blab about anything and everything. But i love to talk and write. I am trying to write a short story so the practise writting here gives me is great. I don't know if it will get published but i am going to submit it to a couple of publishers when i'm finished to see what they say....

I have no idea! I expect that the more positive you are such as rating and best response can help with earnings but I have nothing to base that on. Publishing! That's great! I've always wanted to but no time... hmmmm maybe I can trade the time I spend here LOL

I never mark anybody negative. I think it is a bad attitude and I never do it and I discourage people who do it.

Actually it takes A LOT for me to rate someone a negative...and even if it didnt I wouldnt waste my time or anyone elses by rating a negative just because someone doesnt agree with me..The ppl that have that sort of attitude really dont belong in a forum as far as i'm concerned...Its A FORUM of course NOT EVERYONE is going to agree with everyone else..THATS A GOOD THING! Its how we learn, grow, share and so on..what the hell would the purpose of a discussion forum be if we all agreed on everything ya know..thats just dumb LOL I'll never understand ppl like that :-/

I do the same thing that you do and rate everyone positive even if they disagree. I mean we're asking people for opinions and stuff so there are going to be some people who do not agree with me, that's just a given. I have never gotten a negative I don't think and hope I don't anytime soon. I think I've only given one negative rating and that was when I first got here because the comment was really offensive.

Me too, I rarely rate negative and only if the person was very rude..Sometimes I struggle wanting to rate someone negative when they are completely off the whole subject. Then I think, well, maybe they didn't understand, so I just don't rate them one way or the other..

I think it's best just not to rate. Could be an oops! My rating has gone down once but climbed back up in a few days. I'm very grateful for those who do take the time to rate!

It's rarely that I give a negative rating. And it's definitely not because I have a different opinion. It's mostly when the person is attacking another for having an opinion different than their own. I also might mark a negative when a person repeatedly copies stuff off the net and posts it as a discussion (I've seen it being done but haven't done anything about it...I think the person doesn't log on anymore). But it takes a lot to make me mark a negative. This is a discussion forum and people have different opinions which make the discussion interesting. I don't see any harm in that as long as it is done politely.

I rate mostly positive even the ones that disagree with my point of view. I would never rate anyone negative who does not agree with me. The only ones that may gave a negative are those who are extremely rude and nonsensical. I even rate someone positive who may be racist because I have no idea what made her that way or whether someone of a different ethnic group was nasty or cruel to her or wheher it was drilled into her as a child.

Good Morning! I agree with you on this point. I always rate all my responses and all discussions that I respond to also. I rate them like you do. There have been times that people have disagreed with my opinion also, but this is a free country and everyone has a right to their own opinion. I don't like it when people are rude but I feel that they have the problem, not me. Even if someone is rude to me I try to respond back as nicely as possible. If they continue to be rude I just don't answer them back and never respond again to their discussion. It would take something pretty bad for me to give someone a negative rating. This is a great discussion!! Hope you have a wonderful day! SheliaLee

I usually rate a positive, whether they agree with me or not. But I do give negative rates sometimes. That is when it's obvious that the person didn't read the question. It just seems to me that he/she just went on a posting spree, not caring whether they're on topic or not, just to earn as much as they could. Of course, there are those who didn't understand the topic and I don't rate them negatively. I also rate a negative to those who posted only links without writing a single sentence, especially if it's just a referral link.

How I rate everyone is not by wether they agreed with me or not. I post things to get various points of view otherwise what is the point of this place. We are from all walks of life though we may not entirely agree with the persons view I do feel they deserve respect. I mostly rate everyone positive .. The ones who have to use vulgarity to get their point across I don't rate becasue someone else will do it for me. I have only given one person a negative rating and that is because of then saying they reported a discussion of mine as abuse even though it met all guideline of mylot and they rated me negative because they were calling the people that were on my friend's list barnyard animals. They had a heated discussion on one of my friends forums and then decided to be the minus brigade and negatively rate all her friends. So I draw the line when someone say they are doing something out of spite. I minus them and report it for abuse. We all try to be adult here but it doesn't always happen. I hope you never encounter this kind of action. Have a nice night.

I'll rate negative if someone is being completely nasty to another member. There's a fine line though for speech and someone just being a clown. Unfortunately, there are members who will hit - because they don't agree, or because someone cleaned their clock in an argument, or because they need to feel big for a second.

i have always rated everyone positive.as you say every one has their own point of view and should not be rated negative for that.i have only had one person who did not like my point of view once, but never had anyone rude as yet,but i have seen some posts where some people have been targeted by some nasty little person who went on a negative marking spree on their posts.cheers sue

I very rarely rate someone negative and when I have done it's usually been for rudeness. I don't rate negatively just because someone has a different point of view but of course a lot of people do hence the reason some members do have such a low star rating. There again if I feel a response is unacceptably rude I would report it rather than negatively rate it.

Hi, You are true that no one's rude in the mylot community.I never rate anyone wrong. It is because the person is right in a way,so he's not against me,but with himself, after all this site is to share your feelings,so no complaints.

I always rate everyone with a positive. If I disagree with what they are saying, they still get a positive because it's their opinion and that's why we started the discussion in the first place isn't it? Even if I have nothing to say back to a person, I still rate them with a positive.

I only rate negative if they are rude and get personal. Even if I dont agree with someone I try to put my point across in a respectful way.

Well said. I think the rating system in MyLot needs to be re-thought. There does seem to be a lot of people who rate someone negative simply because they dissagree with their discussion. I'm with you when you say that's wrong. I give negative ratings based on rudeness, and that includes remarks of racism, sexism..etc. But I also do give negative ratings for one more thing, and that is if they have a very high number of spelling mistakes and when they write gibberish (in the sense of real gibberish, using words that don't exist). I'm pretty lenient when it comes to this second reason,(I make spelling and grammer mistakes to after all), but some posts are made by people who are so interested in getting their 1 cent per post fast, that they just type anything furiously.

I have yet to rate anyone negatively. But I imagine when the time comes, it'll be because of an attack, someone being way off topic or some responding "yes" or "no" to a question or a topic that requires more than just a one word answer. Negative ratings are abused here a lot and I've seen more than one member's star fall from a 9 to a 3 overnight, or worse. Usually when a star falls that fast, myLot suspends that account to "investigate" what happens and if you do get it back, you are on "probation" but don't hold your breath. I've known one person on here to get reinstated, but over 40 who lost their accounts for good and all the money that came with it. And it was usually when they got to the $9.75 mark. I think myLot does it so they won't have to pay out.
