We have a pair of blue masked love birds that are roughly a year old. The male has always been interested in mating, but up until maybe 2 months ago could not perform the act correctly (even now he only does it correctly maybe 30% of the time). The female for about a month has become really hormonal, she is starting to stand up for herself more, and wanting to be fed more than usual. She does not have a nest or true nesting material as we are trying to discourage them from breeding because we fear that they may be related (we were told originally the chance were slim to none that they would be).
We were under the impression that she would only become territorial if she had a nest and/or was about to lay eggs. Any other reason she may be acting out?
