Inside of the wrist is very painful! Basically, the more flesh there is, the less pain. That's why a lot of people get them on their upper arms. My partner had his first one done there and he's a wuss when it comes to pain and it didn't really bother him at all! The one on my bony ankle on the other hand - OW!

My sister said the closer to a bone, the more painful it is. That's why getting tattooed on ankles, rib cages and along the upper back is the most painful as there are a lot of bones and not alot of tissue/skin to cover up the pain.

The more skin, the less pain. Or you might have some place where you're not that sensitive. I can tolerate pain in my arms but not in my legs for example even though my legs have more flesh

On your shoulder blade the most fleshy part plus they look good, but make sure you get it somewhere you want as opposed to the least painful spot because it will be there for life, plus getting a tattoo is addictive and the pain actually becomes more enjoyable as it's being done believe it or not!!!

i agree it depends on your individual pain threshold. I have one on my lower back right at the base of my spine and it didnt hurt at all, however i had one done aroound my belly button and thought it wouldnt hurt much as it was a fatty area but boy was i wrong!! good luck xx

Anywhere that is not on your body is the least painful. Preferably on someone else's body works fine for me. In all seriousness, my sister got one on her lower back and said she felt little to no pain. My brother got one on his arm (a band of barb wire around his arm) and one on the back of his neck and said they didn't hurt either. It all depends on how high you can handle pain.

I have 5 tattoos. one on my pelvic bone, didnt hurt all. one on my chest, didnt hurt at all. One on my ankle, hurt a little bit, one on shoulder, didnt hurt at all, one on top of my foot, hurt badly. It depends on where you get them. I find the first few minutes tends to hurt more because your tense and nervous. After that you go numb and it just sails along :)

I only have one tatoo so far which I love, and I found on the lower it was ok. But before you have yours done really check out all the designs, as once it's on you may then see another one that you like more. So really take that into consideration. If you want to check out some designs go to my profile. I hope that helps you. Cheers - Miss Daisy

Any place with thick muscle is good. That's why the bicep is popular for tattoos, it's fleshy and so tends to be less painful. Avoid areas that have bone close to the surface, like ankles or wrists. Areas like the neck or wrist also have a lot of tendons and you want to avoid those. You can always pop a couple of advil before you go in. That will help with the pain. Also, about a half-hour later eat something with sugar in it like a bit of chocolate. (Assuming you aren't diabetic of course.) Your body will release endorphins in response to the pain and when those wear off you go into a major blood sugar crash.
