It all depends which new releases you are mentioning about. Yes there are new laptops out there that are affordable. The lowest price I have found on the market was $299.99 and others about $369.99 that have a DVD Burner and 1GB of RAM installed. You asking about worth having? Well lower price laptops being released new don't tend to be sufficient, reliable and performance wise is not savvy - At least getting a laptop close to $600 will do - since Windows Vista is installed on them - You don't want to encounter any problems in the future. And my recommendation for laptops is to make sure at least 2GB of RAM and a good Pentium Core 2 Duo processor - I do not recommend low budget processors such as the Intel Celeron or AMD 64 processors that have speeds up to 1.6 to 1.8Ghz. I hope this helps you in the long run.

Hey there,I have a HP zv6131 Notebook I bought it in 2005. There is a few things you should know about laptops if you have never had one. First at some point the battery has to be replaced. you can't upgrade them as easy as a desktop, with video card and sound card. So this is something you give up for the portablity of the laptop. The other thing is they run hotter than your desktop so invest in a chill pad. I recently had to replace my hard drive which really made for a bad day. Also I have had to fix the battery charger because it gets hot and the wires in the cord melt and short out. I like my laptop but now after being two years old it is out dated. The program requirements have changed which the laptop without upgrading will not run. Overall, yes laptops are smaller than the older ones and cheaper now a days. Remember for the portatbility you will give up the easier upgrading ability. These are just my thoughts and something for others to consider.

i would like to have a laptop and yea.... the smaller ones that were just released are pretty cool. i shouldve waited for the newer ones instead. i bought my laptop and i wasnt happy because it was one that people say its one worth getting....it was an acer. i read in an article that the company usually builds the laptops wrong. but yea the newer ones look much nicer.
