I made a REALLY big mistake!

As planned, we are getting ready to go skating today. My ploy is to encourage the children to go to school everyday and reward them with skating but today we're making a BIG deal out of it so they know what to look forward to. But I forgot to call to confirm the open skate time. I assumed they were the same as last year, from 2-4 or sometime in the early afternoon. I just called now, it's at the same time my kids are suppose to be in dance at 4!! My kids cannot miss anymore dance so it's not even an option now. I have no idea how to break this to them. They got their skates all ready last night, my daughter even woke me up real early eager to go, I was even excited to go! The weather is so warm here, I can't even take them on the river and our local outside rink isn't open. We can't go tobogganing because of all the slush. Help I need ideas of what we can do this afternoon that would be just as exciting!!! I'm so disappointed in myself!

So sorry to hear of this!! It is very disappointing.... Is there a Chucky Cheese near where you live or a Nebs Bowling where they have go karts etc and it is all inside? I hope you find something fun to do before the children have to go to Dance....Enjoy your day! HUGS ~Heavens~

No Chucky Cheese in Canada. I've yet to set foot in one of those, I'm so curious to know what it's like! Bowling is a good idea but it's an hour away! No go karts close by. My youngest did take out her rollerblades but it's too slushy out. The kids decided to go for a bike ride and then they want to play board games. I was really hoping to go out! :(

I'm Canadian and there is Chucky Cheese here! I was thinking of an indoor roller skating rink... Sorry you are stuck inside today!!! that is a downer :( As enjoyable as family board games can be.... Hope you have a great day despite all of this! :) HUGS ~Heavens~

Take them to a movie. Kids love to go to the movies. We all went to see a movie at least once a month. Matinees cost less too.

That is a great idea! Especially here on the military base is really cheap but again I wouldn't have the time. I did think about it because they are playing Alvin and the Chipmunk today at 2... but with dance at 4.... ARGH! I should have done this YESTERDAY!!

Is there another choice you can make to entertain them for an hour or so before their dance class? Or maybe skate for an hour and leave early. Do they like to go to the show? Have friends over for awhile? These things happen and somehow mom's always seem to be able to figure it out. Ice skating, what a fun sport. I work at an indoor rink in the midwest that's open all year.

HeeHee no problem hun. I still enjoy reading all replies! Even though we stayed indoors, we had a good day together. My oldest helped me wash a few dishes, we made pancakes, sausage and eggs for dinner and then all cuddled on the couch and watched a movie. :)

What about skiiing, is there any of that near where you live ? tthey would have groomed hills, and i'm sure you can sled there as well as skii if you dont like to ski. Or what about one of those indoor places for kids to have fun, i dont know what they would be called there, but here we have like playzone, and airzone. Depending on the age of your kids, there is always gokarts, or paintballing. Or the ever famous among kids, BOWLING ;)

Except for hubby, we've never gone skiing so I have no equipment. And I wouldn't even know where the closest hill is except for Poley Mountain which is HOURS away! But it's something of interest that I should look into! Thanks for the idea. As for bowling and indoor play, it's over an hour away. I just wouldn't have the time to play that now!

I am so sorry this happened Momma. I hope you found something... I know it's late, so whatever you ended up doing, I hope it solved your problem . If not, just tell them you made a mistake,(yep, we need to let our kids know we are not perfect) and maybe next week try to go on Saturday instead of Sunday.. (Just make sure you can confirm the times first.)

Thanks hun. There is no open skate on Saturday however I can take them on Friday evening! Definitely going to take them then. Oh how I felt bad!! My oldest ended spending the day on the computer. A treat for her since she loves to play Age of Empires and she doesn't get much of a chance to. My husband and I finally set up B's computer with her educational games on them. So even though we didn't find something to do outside of the home, we still kept ourselves busy... (and I got all that laundry done LOL)

I would just go for an hour...that way they still get to go but they don't miss dance..or an hour and 15 if that still gives you enough time to get to dance...

Well the trouble with that is the skating is in Oromocto, 35 minutes away from 3:45 to 5 and my daughter's dance is in town here from 4 to 4:45! No time at all!
