why do kids ask for things when you are busy?

i mean in the way that, if i am on the phone and my daughter asked for money to go out, i would automatically give her it and then think what just happenned there. i think kids use distraction methods to get what they want, quite funny. do your kids do this or do you do this to your parents?

i used to do it with my parents all the time it was the best way to get them to say yes. my oldest does it with me and my parents and my parents still fall for it. i don't so much i just tell her i'm busy and she'll have to wait.

You said it! Today world is busy busy busy. We are constantly distracted. And kids learn that when we're distracted, we don't want to be bothered so we'll do almost anything to get them to leave us alone for a split second LOL Mom can I have a cookie... Yeah yeah do what you want, I'm on an important call right now... Next thing you know they've built tents with your newly clean laundry! oh been there, done that! LOL

My kids never seem to need anything or want to talk about anything unless I am in the middle of something. It never fails either. Especially when I am watching my favorite show. They always come in and start talking as if I am not doing anything at all. They don't normally ask me for something like money because they know I'm not going to answer their question until I can actually hear their question. But it still drives me crazy that they do that.

yah, that's what exactly my daughter is doing..when i'm doing something inside the house, like doing the house chores, she really wanted me to cuddle her and i really feel so angry sometimes..lol if i dont listen to her she lay down the floor then cry..maybe because they get bored or maybe they only wanted us to give them what they wanted..it's so irritating but it's quite funny too..

Yes I do to my parents because they will be so busy that they'll automatically say yes. It it a very easy way to get things that you want.

Well I think it usually is a way to get your attention too and at the same time to get something out from you. I do have a 5 year old son and I usually have observed that my son would always interject with us when my wife and I are discussing something and he feels he is not included in the discussion.

My son is too young to ask for money when i'm busy, but he enjoys playing on his own when i'm not busy..... but as soon i start doing something he comes upto me and wants me to join in playing with his toys with him. Which is the same sort of thing, just for the age he is. I think most kids ask their parents things like you mentioned when they are busy because they know they are alot more likely to get what they want that way. ~Joeys wife
