Well, at least you have someone who will look after the cat until you can move, so it's not permenant and it is not like you have abandoned him. I once passed up returning to a summer job I really enjoyed the previous years because their housing program had changed and I wouldn't have been able to take my cat for the six weeks (I didn't have anyone I felt comfortable leaving him with for that lon at the time). I've had him for over 10 years now and would have a terrible time giving him up.

My sister's friend was forced to give up his 5-year-old calico, Mimi, when it was discovered that his son was allergic to cats. If I didn't take Mimi in, she would have wound up in a shelter. Anyway, at least you know where your cat is and can ask your friend about him. You would not be able to do that if you took your cat to a shelter.

I am just too fond of my cat. I guess I wouldn't leave her for anything.

Hi punlonnjack, I would never want to give up my cat, but you seem to be in a position where you have no choice. I hope your friend is able to take care of her, until you are ready to take her back. Our pets are very special. Blessings.

There is always a choice. But a lot of people don't want to take that road that leads to another choice.

I wouldn't give my cat up for anything! She's only 2 months old, but I'm already 100% attached to her. You could just keep your cat in your room?

I'd move out period whether I was in a good position or not. It chaps my hyde to see people just toss out their cats without even fighting for them. Would you just toss out your kid if your MIL was allergic? No. You'd find a place to live with your kid. Your cat should be no exception.

Are you close enough to where your cat is that you can visit? Or maybe do a video call on the computer. I know it sounds weird, but they recognize our voices and our faces, so it might help you and her until you can recollect her. My cat is 16 and went a little crazy when I left for a week. I had my daughter call and put her on the phone so I could talk to her. She immediately started purring and chirping and head-butting everything around her. She knew it was me.
