i think of my bird as a little kid who didn't know how to speak yet cause i got this feeling that she really unders stand ..if you only hear her when i say No .. she start whineing like a kid crying .. when i say good bye she screams mama come here .. come here im sure she understand but shes too yong 1 year old .. she don't have a vocabulary to tell me what she feel yet .. i think in 5 years or so i would answer your question defenrtly and say my african gray is not repeting she tell me what in her mind ..

nope they just copy words and sentences that they hear my African Grey talks like crazy. he makes me nuts sometimes
