Relationships between cravings and what your body needs.

I've been told that when you are craving something, that's your body's way of telling you that it needs something. Like if you are craving a big, juicy hamburger, you need iron or when you can't get enough milk, you need calcium. I've just recently started craving all things Japanese. I really don't like COOKED fish but I like Sushi and I've been going nuts for some good sushi. I've been dying for a good bowl of Miso soup and some Tori Katsu Don (basically chicken cutles over rice Japanese style). Is anyone else having cravings like this?

When I have certain cravings I know my body needs something. You hit it on right on the head with the iron thing. When I need iron, I crave red meat like crazy. I want burgers and roast beef sandwiches. It won't realize it until like two or three meals of what is going on, but then I make sure to get what my body needs. They say for women, when they are craving chocolate, their body is looking for a certain chemical that is in chocolate. However, the same chemical could be found in spinach (which also has iron) so women should eat that instead. I forget exactly what the chemical is though.

I know that Dark chocolate has antioxidants. Maybe that's what you would need if you craved chocolate.

Maybe you need iodine? I love Japanese food. I think a lot of Asian food is addicting, but sometimes it may be salt or sugar that people really like. But if my husband and I go somewhere, I'd rather have Japanese and he would rather have Chinese. I think Japanese is more suttle, my husband has a hard time tasting so I think that's why he likes Chinese. Take care

Japanese can be a lot more subtle and clean tasting than Chinese. I love both but prefer the light, complex flavors of Japanese food. If I go for Chinese, I usually get the Mongolian BBQ since it's fresh and I can get what I want in the Stirfry. Even then, it's a simple dish of meat, cabbage, sprouts and onion. Then I make my way to the buffet and add a big scoop of white rice to it. On more than one occasion, I had the BBQ chef congratulate me on a very good choice.

I haven't ever craved japanese food, but i do crave other food at times. Its ok when its separate, but tastes abit strange together. When i was pregnant with my son i craved pasta and tinned baked alot, which always tasted strange together. All i seem to be craving while i'm pregnant now is alot of chocolate and biscuits. Occasionally crisps, but mostly hot chocolate before i go to bed. When i have a baby girl i seem to crave loads of junk food like crisps and chocolate, but when i have a baby boy i crave more healthier food but food that tastes weird mixed together. ~Joeys wife

I love Chinese and Japanese food. I remember when I cam back from Kansas I was really sad because out in Kansas I lived in a town the was a military town because my ex-husband was in the military, and anyway alot of retired military there and military families. So we had some awesome chinese and japanese and Katonese and just about any type of food you can think of. It was great. I came back home and since there are no posts around and pretty much the places here don't have that level of great food for those cultures so I morned the lose of my food places and was craving those for a while. You don't always crave and it mean that your body needs something there can be just out right I want this and that seems to be what your body is doing, have a nice day.

I'm afraid that cravings are not our body's claim for what it needs, this is ADDICTION to food. People who can't resist their cravings are always gaining weight and get obese. When our body claims its needs for food, it doesn't show this thru cravings. Growling stomach is the most common way to show is time to eat, but cravings are a very dangerous thing that we have to resist. Of course, our life is short and we need to staisfy our cravings sometimes, but not to make a habit out of it.

My mom use to tell me that ALL the time. For me it was milk once when I was pregnant and brocilli before too. Now I don't get many cravings i seem to be eating a more well balanced diet, but I don't know what the japense food thing would be have you tried researching it on the internet...that is an interesting one. Good luck
