You may hear about hybrid dogs? Now scientists are working with nature, recreating big cats. It is not a lion and not a tiger, it is LIGER. At 900 pounds, Liger is twice bigger that an average tiger. It is 40% larger that Lion. Why Liger is so much bigger that his parents? Do we have rights to recreate Mother Nature? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cowCS_OoDSY&feature=related

how would you like to feed that kitty cat? I had heard of them but dont think I had seen one before and to me I dont think it is really and improvement on mother nature!/ Now if this happened in the forest by the animals consent would make a differents but for them to seems to me they had force the animals to mate dont make since to me . Hate that to come out of the woods or jungle at me!

so someone was trying to prove something or has nothing to do in their spare time, creating this living predator with skills unmatched by nature. and what will happen to it if it escapes or even worse attacking other animals? will it be killed by the same people who created it? If it ever gets loose, I will feed the scientist to him. I don't suppose dear liger is vegetarian.

Actually these things already occur in nature occasionally when a female tiger takes a solitary lion as a mate. As for why there's such a size boost is hard to say. Something about the combination probably recombines some ancient DNA from something like a sabertooth that they both share a little of.

It's very uncommon. Usually caused when a solitary male comes up on a female tiger ( tigers don't travel in prides ) who is in heat.

Hmmmm I'm not sure if we have the right to do so or not. Usually the first thought coming to mind is.. oh well, that's interesting, what harm can come form it? But thinking deeper a lot of concerns are raised, at least for me.

Yes, that can happen. I think it raises a lot of possibilities. We cross many things, vegetables, animals... many good things might be able to be achieved with this, but ... as with everything, it can be abused, and bring more negatives than positives. I will have to wait and see , of course:)

OK, you are talking English mixed with chat lingo, I am not a chat person. I am still guessing, but I understand that English is not your first language and you learned English on chat, so for you it sounds good, but for me is like mumbo jumbo. I don't want to offend you, can you try to write with full words, so it is easier to understand? I don't know what V stands for and so on... Anyway, nice to talk to you...

Wow, I never heard of that. What in the world are the scientists going to do with that? And who is going to feed that giant wild cat? I don't think we should be messing around with things like that. If they were suppose to exist, they would come about naturally.

Man has been hybridising animals for a long time. I have heard of lions and tiger crosses for many years now, they have ligers and tigons, it depends on which parents were the mother and father is guess. Then there is the beefalo which is a cross between a Brahma bull and Bison cow and then they can be bred to regular cattle to get low fat animals that can be range fed instead of grain fed. Crossing two different breeds of dogs does not give you a hybrid because all domestic dogs are the same species. Did you know that the Jaguar from the Americas and the leopard from Africa are the same species, just different subspecies? My thoughts on "Big Foot" is that it is a cross between two different great apes, maybe even humans and other apes.

Hello, It seems to me that we are more curious than the cats! Why do we need giant cats? And not only who's gonna feed it, but who's gonna scoop the litter pan? It reminds me of grafting in botany. Seems no big deal to this type of thing with plants. But animals? If I could be hybrid with another human, it would definitely have to be Jodie Foster! lol

I don't want to think about hybrid human, we are mixed enough....
