What can be more satisfying?

On a blustery and bitter cold night -
than a steaming hot bowl of homemade soup, or even store bought for that matter?
(except maybe soup AND a quilt)
you cradle the stoneware and it warms your hands
you smell the aroma and the steam wafts over your face - warming
you gently dip your spoon and bring up some luscious broth and carefully bring it to your lips, contemplating along the way if you should blow on it or not -
it passes your lips and you feel the warmth travel down your esophagus - and suddenly your whole body is filled with its comforting flavors and warmth...
warmth.
warmth.
brrr, did I mention it is really cold in my house? and I'm enjoying a nice bowl of minestrone!

More satisfying??? Make some bread and have some still warm bread and butter with the soup and the quilt.
Now you did it -- I am drooling!

True..biscuits will work, but I love the hours of smelling that goes into a good homemade bread.

Yum, that sounds really good. It must be really cold where you are. I like a hearty beef stew when it's really cold, then some hot chocolate.

I just made some oxtail soup. It's so good, and it's filling too. I almost always have some kind of homemade soup in the fridge in this cold weather. In warmer weather, I like the cream soups, like with broccoli or asparagus. They're good with a salad or grilled cheese sandwich.

The most difficult thing about making oxtail soup is finding oxtails. I used to be able to find them at a reasonable price, but now they're higher than most other soup meats. I had an oxtail only because I bought a quarter of a beef from a local farm, and they save the oxtail for me. All I do to make soup is to brown the oxtails in a little oil, and then add a big can of diced tomatoes, water, chopped onion, and seasoning. Bring it to a boil, then turn it down to simmer for a few hours until the meat is very tender. Towards the end, I add some frozen mixed vegetables, and cook some noodles to go with it.

You are so right nothing is better than soup on chilly damp days. I also love chili and stew. I'm going to make stew topped with biscuits tomorrow for dinner. It is cold in our house too. We all sit around covered up with blankets. I hate getting out of bed in the mornings. lol Maybe I should have soup for breakfast.

Wow, your post was almost poetic in nature and made me hungry for soup! I know what my family is having for dinner tonight! I love lentil soup and will most likely be making a large pot this afternoon. When I make soup, all the leftovers (if there are any) are partitioned into small freezer containers and frozen so that I can take them to work for lunch! I put a piece of tape on the containers with the date the soup was made and at least once a week for a few weeks, I have my lunch prepared and ready to grab!
