When you make website designs what do you do so get ideas. Also do you have problems of making up your own unique designs, like you find a site design you really like, but you know you can't just copy it. I need to make a new design for my site. I'm trying to make it look as good as possible. I found a site design i look so i'm trying to do something like it without copying it. Any ideas that could help me?

I usually sketch layouts of how each website should be.. till i get one that I feel right about... I do search the net for references too.. Yup, you cant copy exactly.. but creativity is being different and sometimes unique.. you can actually try to recreate the look you found, then change things here and there that truly belong to you... then the outcome would usually be yours... not where you copied from... A good design is from trial and error... There's no definite answers to how it's done..

For me, there are a few things. Sometimes I will have a basic idea to start with and just do different things with tables until I get a layout I like. Something else I have done was to design a layout in Macromedia Fireworks, each image on a different layer. I then make the layout large enough, divide it and save as different images. I also re-use my layouts.
