I am planning on getting a small dog in a few years. I know, I am planning ahead. I am doing so because I have no idea what I am looking for. I know that I want a dog that will not get big. One that I could carry around in one of those little doggy purses. I guess I am wanting a toy bread. Any ideas on this? Thanks!

We have a minature Sheltie she is to big for a carrier though. She might weigh 30 lbs. She is a great dog. Very smart and easy to train. She loves people and is great with kids. She looks like a little Lassie.

Lassie is a very pretty dog. I want something smaller than that though. But thank you!

My daughter has a friend who has a pom-a-poo, part pomeranian and part toy poodle and she had carried this dog in her purse into a hospital one time...:)

That sounds so cute. I have a pomeranian right now and a rat terrior. I will have to look into those and see. Thank you!

Good for you for planning. I did also. It took me over two years to find my little dog Roxy. She is a 5.6lb Yorkie X Shitz Shu X Maltese. I wanted a yorkie but not a full breed. I wanted a mix breed to cancel out any hereditary health problems that can occur with purebreds. I knew I wanted a "toy" dog because I live in a small dwelling. Roxy fits perfect. She also has an Outward Hound front carrier so she can come with me pretty much anywhere if she gets tired of walking. I searched and search. I had one dog on order, thinking it was exactly what I wanted. It was a shitzu X Maltese I think.. Anyway, later I met a lady with Shitz Shu X Yorkie and they were much bigger than I had planned. I got online right away and found websites that talked about the characteristics of each breed. Especially their height and weight, whether they shed or not. I didn't want a shedder either. Roxy doesn't shed. There was a site I found, something about 35o dog breeds but I can't find it now. Here are a couple others: http://www.justdogbreeds.com/ http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/p-q.htm http://www.greatdogsite.com/ http://www.dog360.info/en/dog_breeds/ There was a lot to research until I finally figured out what it was that I wanted. Funny too because Roxy has shitz shu in her yet I didn't want a shitz shu anything. The only part of her that is shitz shu that I can see are her beautiful bright eyes. Bigger than a yorkie. Also, I knew I didn't want a barker. No Poodles or Chihuahua.
