"there was a barber in his wife..."
we watched Sweeny Todd last night and wow! it was an awesome movie! we were laughing during and after a movie even though it was morbid and tragic and bloody and full of gore! LOL johnny depp was so amazing, singing like a rockstar, looking like a zombie, behaving like a true murderer! ^__^;;
Sacha Baron Cohen was funny too as the Italian Pirelli, the unfortunate first victim of Mr. Todd, and Mrs. Lovette who fell in love with Sweeny and had imagined all sorts of things like the funny scene at the beach (one of my favorite scenes) with her in it, Mr. Todd and Toby.
the special effects were amazing too especially when Mr. Todd cuts all the throats of his victims and when Mrs. Lovette grinds all the human meat in a huge grinder.
and they are all good singers but the lines I can only remember are "I feel you joana... i'll steal you joana...", "pretty women...", "there's no place like london.." and the opening line of this discussion. ^__^;;
all in all, I am recommending to watch this movie because Johnny Depp is worth your time and so as Mr. Todd. ^__^

I like anything Johnny Depp stars in and now
I'm sure this one will be awesome as well.
I generally wait for the rush to slow down
before going to see a movie but I've been
itching to see Sweeny Todd.
We'll be going this weekend for sure.

scratch that itch jumpinjack! LOL you wouldn't want to miss this movie in the theater. even if you say you can watch this on dvd, its better to watch it in the theater. its already the weekend! go go go go! ^__^

yeah. this is a musical movie so there's a lot of singing and its better to hear it nice and clear and feel the beat. ^__^ i loved the first song that Mr. Todd sang in the movie. but i can't really catch everything of it because its a fast song! ^__^;; i would have recorded it if i had thought of that idea before. LOL

I watched this and I'm sorry but I didn't have the stomach to completely watch the throat-slashing scenes. I just looked somewhere else whenever Johnny has another "customer".
Out of the songs, I mostly liked the one sung for Joanna. Ahh...sweet, innocent love. And I have to say I was completely surprised that Johnny Depp can sing that well. He sang in a sexy manner, kind of a trying to hypnotize the women! I liked listening to him while he sang. But I didn't like the way he looked though. Still much prefer him in being a pirate rather than a pale, mad throat-slasher.

LOL yeah, the throat-slashing scenes were not a really pleasant view. i covered my eyes at first but i got used to it. one of the audience would raise his hands whenever a throat was slashed and that was really funny. ^__^;;
i like joanna too. when we went out of the theater we were like "i feel you joana..." we couldn't stop. ^__^;;
i was also amazed upon learning that Johnny Depp can really sing. and like a rockstar. yeah, he sang in a sexy manner. i would have been hypnotized like mrs. lovette. ^__^;;

hi cdparazo! Johnny Depp was nominated in the Golden Globe for this role, and he won the best actor award. i'm not sure about the Oscars. ^__^

I haven't seen it seen it yet. But I will. I am a huge Johnny Depp fan. He is always wonderful.Glad you enjoyed the movie. I will take your recommendation to heart. I know its bloody. But so was Depps ending in Nightmare on Elm Street.

I liked this movie ! At first I was a little reluctant to watch it because I somehow could not get the image of Johnny Depp as a pirate out of my head ! But now im glad i did watch this movie because it was something different. There was some dark comedy slitted in this movie and the songs were catchy !! Helena also did a good job playing Mrs.lovett ! Tim burton also did a good job directing this movie.Overall , I think everyone should watch this movie !

hi diviva! ^__^ i am so glad you liked this movie! there's a lot of dark humor in it actually. and yes, the songs were very catchy like there's no place like London, there was a barber and his wife, no one's gonna harm you, and joana... ^__^ i think everyone did a good job here.

I am very much looking forward in seeing this movie, Johnny Depp is truly a wonderful actor, he is so versatile, funny and has been in some wonderful roles from Pirates of The Caribbean to Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and Edward Scissor Hands. Thank you for the review and recommendation, definitely sounds like a good choice indeed. Even if the story isn't up to it, Johnny Depp makes up for it, he can make any film great.

you said it right wolfie. the story is very tragic and i can say that you can tell what's going to happen, but in the end, you'll feel very satisfied and you'll say the movie was great because of Johnny Depp's acting and singing! ^__^ you have the right adjective there, versatile.

I know Johnny Depp is a superb actor and did a fantastic job as Sweeney Todd for the movie version but I encourage you to also see the Broadway version starring Angela Lansbury as Todd's wife (it is available on DVD) to get the real london down-right dirtiness of the true 'demon barber of Fleet Street'--and I stood under the street sign back in 1984 visiting London and felt an eerieness hardly explainable . . .

Sweeney Todd is not yet showing in my country but i think i will watch it when it is available... i say the trailer and i looked really interesting... well... i think all movies of Johnny Depp are interesting... as an actor... he made good movie choices which made him the big star that he is right now...
I am particularly interested in the singing... i have never seen nor heard Johnny Depp sing so this movie is somewhat like a debut for him... i read that Sweeney Todd won some award in the Golden Globes... so it means that this is not just a movie... but something with quality...

you've definitely got to watch this movie if you're a fan of Johnny Depp! he was fantastic! he sang like an angry rockstar here! and that was really effective as his character Sweeny Todd. i was surprised when i learned that he had a band before. so singing wasn't really so new to him. but a movie musical is really new to him.
yeah, he won the best actor for "musical or comedy" category and the film won best picture for the same category. ^__^

LOL yeah, it is based on an actual serial killer. and the fact that it was made into a musical/comedy movie is really amazing! it was a really great dark comedy there. ^__^

I really want to see this movie! I love Tim Burton and think he's one of the best directors ever. I also love Alan Rickman and he plays the judge. I'm a fan of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter too and I think they do good work together. Both of them are amazing, versatile actors. I think Johnny Depp does some of his best work in Tim Burton movies.

yeah! even the actors from the Harry Potter movies are amazing! Alan Rickman is as mean as ever and so as Wormtail! LOL Helena Carter is excellent too! she was funny when she was daydreaming. LOL you really shouldn't miss this. ^__^

Sweeny Todd is not yet in the screen here in my place.But I did saw the movie trailer of this.I always like Johnny Depp's versatility as an actor.And yes I would love to watch this movie.The movie houses here have a hot endorsement of this film, and I saw the preview how excellent Johnny Depp portraying Mr. Todd with his excellent voice and the rest of the cast.
I'm pretty sure it is a great movie, can't wait.It will be shown last week of January here.Just basing on your feedback, I am looking forward too for a good laugh that might reach my ears LOL!!!

don't bring any food especially juice if you're going to watch this. that is, if you don't have a strong stomach. LOL it has a lot of blood i tell you. ^__^
Johnny Depp is really awesome isn't he?? ^__^ i loved his voice in the movie. he sang like a rockstar and it really fits the character.

I'm looking forward to this movie a lot. unfortunately, i will have to wait maybe two more weeks before this is shown in cinemas where I live.
The trailer itself was enough to whet my appetite and make me raring to see the movie right away. Plus, the fact that Johnny Depp won as best actor in the golden globe for his performance in this movie only further make me want to see the movie.

yup. he really best actor there for the category "musical or comedy". and the film won best picture for the same category. i suggest that you don't watch this on dvd because it is better to be seen on a large screen. ^__^

i saw it a couple of months back. it wasn't too bad, wasn't scary at all but there were indeed some pretty gruesome parts! enjoyed the movie nonetheless.
