Going out to eat - money shouldn't be the only issue

Lately I've been getting TONS of coupons. These coupons entice me to go out to eat. For example, today we went to Baskin Robbins for a buy one get one free Sundae. Since it/s 1/2 off, we figure we can go twice as often for these deals!! Sounds great right? We are saving money right? But then here's the catch, money shouldn't be the only thing I think about. I should also think about the health factor. It's not healthy to have Baskin Robbins every few weeks, even if it's 1/2 off. It's so hard for me to tear up and not use a coupon that has a really good deal on it but I'm really trying not to gain a ton of weight by eating out. What about you? Are you so enticed by the deal that you don't even think about health? Or do you think it's better to still only go once in awhile? I'm not just talking about dessert, but about dinner too! I have a by one meal get one free for certain restaurants in my area almost monthly... yet I know I shouldn't go to them every time. How good is your will power in these cases? Any suggestions for avoiding getting sucked in by the deals and instead only using deals when you already planned to go out??

Same here, we also get one of those. But we don't really pay much about it, since we always think of healthy and fresh eating. We mostly cook for our meals, we seldom go out and take advantage of those discount coupons. Let's say, we only use them if we really want to have a good snack. We also live near a mall, where we get most of the coupons. I beiieve the the best to deal with it is, by learning how to cook and always be prepared to learn cooking new dishes for the family.

well you have more will power then us! We both can cook, I don't think that's the issue. It's more about a will to cook. The restaurants can be just way too convenient sometimes.

Pretty good generally. Around christmas, however I wasn't that much in control as I found a new love with regular cheese burgers topped off with pineapple. The best thing I find, is when I decide to make the most of "treats" inside the home. I love having a fun meal here, so it kinda takes my mind away. Plus at the moment we don't have a phone to call out! That helps huge deal. ~Joey

Yeah I need to cook more exciting things at home. I think that would help a lot! My problem is probably that we make the same things all the time and rarely think outside the box, so when we get a coupon for a good restaurant, it's so tempting to check it out.

Isn't it a shame they don't have coupons of a buy one get one free or half off deal at restaurants with GOOD food? Usually it's for fast foods or restaurants where the food just plain isn't all that healthy...I mean can you imagine a food coupon for say the Rainbow Room here in NY where one meal could cost one near a hundred dollars?? To be honest I just don't plain eat out much..hardly at all being on a limited budget...but yes, I look at those coupons for meals and it's just never something that would entice me. I'm not a real big fan of fast foods like MacDonald's or Burger King...once in awhile they do have coupons for Olive Garden which is supposed to be good ...but alas, no Olive Garden near me..drat!

Oh yeah if they had 1/2 off at the place in the MGM Grand Detroit (I hear it's $100 a person!) boy would that be awesome!!! I do get coupons for things other than fast food though, but a lot of times you have to eat at off times or days OR order from a very select menu which still isn't very healthy.

I live in a very busy place and there are so many restaurants arround here and the owners hire part-times to distribut coupons in the streets every day. Those coupons spread rampantly that we are never afraid it will disappears one day. We always choose where we want to and ask for a coupon from the distributor before going to eat.

Well that must be nice. Coupons are not that common around here, at least not for most restaurants.
