Starting new discussion reduces the visibility of earlier ones?

Do you think if you start a new discussion, does it reduces the chance of earlier discussions getting responses? I think so. Atleast to a great extend. Its not that I seldom do not get response to very old discussiobns. But it somehow reduces the chance if the eaerlier one is not that much glitttery. What's your opinion?

I find the best way to keep a discussion "live" is to go back and read what the people who responded have to say to you. If you ask a question and then don't read or comment on the answers, people won't bother to respond to you.
If someone responds they are discussing your post... join in to your own discussions.
It's by doing this that your posts will get into "today's top discussions" ...there is "no top user" or single "top discussion", there are many.

Good point, MsTickle. The longer I'm on mylot, the more I learn. I've been here about a month. According to my profile, 3 weeks.
Anyhow, to change the subject -- I really like your avatar!
Cheers,
Joyce

I don't think that's true.
In fact some of my discussions which were a year old got more visibility now and people have started responding to those AFTER I got tired and gave BR to on response from the very few I recieved.
People who are interested in your new discussions do check out your old ones when they get the time. If the new one is interesting, they go back to check your older ones to find something they missed or were posted befor they came into your friend list.
If your discussions are interesting, people will respond even if you have started new discussions.

I usually check older discussions if I find someone's new discussions interesting. So, I assumed others would be doing the same.
I've had friends who joined recently check out my older discussions and when one person responds and I comment, it brings it into the discussion list again and other people see it and respond (if it is interesting)

Earlier say couple of motnhs ago, there used to be hectic participation in mylot by thosuands of members. Any discussion topic would get close to 50 responses or so. I never used to bother what happens to my earlier discussion, I used to post the discussions and it used to get the responses. Now it is different. Hardly a few responses are filed. Forget about the general members, our own friends do not respond. Probably they do not keep the NOTIFY ON and they must be lazy enough to search for the topic from the list.
So I stopped posting topics for about 3 months and I cleared all my discussion topics.
So at present, it is not a concern whether people resopnd or not, I am not finding time to post the topic So I concentrate on responding to others' topics.

of course. because older discussions get to the bottom since the order of discussions is based on when they were created. however, it would depend on the author of the discussion how he/she will make her old discussions still "alive", that is, keeping it on top of the list by responding to every comment in it. ^__^
i have lots of old discussions which i haven't answered all of its responses yet. so even if it gets to the bottom of my list, i can still make it to resurface once i comment on all the responses. ^__^

Hello, subha12!
No, I don't think that it reduces the chances. People are creating new discussions every hour of the day, specially the new users. But there are some discussions that prevail, no matter how old they are. That's because the great discussions won't be influenced by the new ones. They won't be put behind. Great discussions are always great discussions.
But, of course, when they get very old, and they get resolved, then there is no reason for them to keep in the active's list. Therefore, they slowly disappear, and can only be found later if you LOOK for them.
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

I have found that whether a discussion is new or older doesn't seem to matter. I've had responses to discussions I started quite awhile back. I think it depends on when somebody comes along to notice and respond. Sometimes that can take awhile.
My personal biggest challenge is to create an interest-grabbing title.
