Do you know who your neighbors all are by name?

I find it interesting to see how many people know their neighbors all by name. I try to meet them all but sometimes forget and feel silly having to ask but they probably forget mine too! I think it would be fun to give everyone in the neighborhood a test to see who knows the names of their neighbors and something about them like what they do for a living.

I think I know most of my neighbors by name. We live in a close area. My kids play with their kids and a lot of us attend the same church. We walk around in spring and as we walk we visit our friends and neigbors as we walk. I love knowing who I live by. I feel like there are more people out there to help me keep my kids safe.

that is a good point about knowing your neighbors so your kids are safe. I try to at least know where all the kids live. Thanks for your comments!

No,i dont know them by name.It is not easy for me to rememember them.I only know this much that who is his mother, father.Never i take interest to ask them their names.I ask only to my mother but later in a few monthns or in a year i forget. But i dont ask their names again. But I know them very well. The only thing we should not forget in life is that we should give respect to every people weather they are smaller or bigger than you.

That is so true about respect, even if you don't know their names you can say hello sir or mam or whatever is proper in your country.

Hi kimberly, In our country it's easier since we tend to be known by our first names and not the general surnames. I am not saying that I know all of my neighbours names but I know the names of the immediate and close neighbours. Many times we get to memorise names by some loud neighbours who keep on talking on the top of their voice and take names of their children. That makes things easier in one sense. Smiles...

I have to admit that I do not know many of my neighbors by name, even though I have lived here for many years. I live in a private estate where it is all apartment blocks and there are more than 1000 apartments within this place. Most of the time, people are not at home especially during the day, because they are out at work. When they are home, they are usually their apartment units, and the main door is closed. So most of those whom I know are either those families that live within my apartment block or those I meet regularly downstairs when I take my evening walks. But generally, the people living around here are a friendly lot.

it is easier to meet people when you have kids that play together. We have some older people too and I don't know them as well but at least give a wave to them.

I don't know them all very well, but I do know them all by name. Even if we only say high every now and then. I live on a small street though. I used to live in a high rise, where it was a lot harder to even see who your neighbours are, let alone know each one (there were a lot) by name. What I find interesting though is that there are people who don't know their neighbours names even they only have a few on a small street. They just get in their car and go to work, and when they are at home they just tend to stay inside.

It is sad that we get so busy that we don't even have time to be outside and socializing with our neighbors these days. I even tell my neighbors when we are going to be gone so they look out for the house for us. If I don't see someone for a while I check on them because several are older.

I probably know three of my neighbors by name. One of them, a really nice lady who lives across the street, introduced herself to me and told me her name. Another neighbor, who turned out to be really pesky, and his name was discovered by accident. I also know one of my next-door neighbors by name. Except for two households across the street that I have no regard or respect for, the neighbors are pretty quiet and nice. It's a shame that there's at least one household who insists on being jackasses.

I made it a point to make cookies for people when they move in. I put a note on it with our names and even our phone number so if they need anything they can call or come over. Someone did that for me and it meant the world and I try to pay it forward now.

I know a few of our neighbours names, but mainly the adults and not their childrens names. There are a few of the childrens names i do know though. We have only lived here since november last year, so i don't think we are doing that badly for remembering peoples names. Christmas helped though, because most of the christmas cards we got from the neighbours and near by houses had their names on the cards and said what number they lived at. I probably would remember names, more than the jobs people do because its alot easier to get someones name and try to remember it. I can guess from how many woman that live on their own with their children and just go out when they take and pick their kids up from school, that they are single full time mums. ~Joeys wife

I didn't give out Christmas cards to all my neighbors but what a great idea. That way they would have your name. I will do that next year, thanks for the idea.

A great idea. I myself don't know all my neighbors. It's shameful but that's reality. Because of this, I hope to know my neighbors by name. thanks

I met a lot when they did a neighborhood garage sale someone organized. Nothing gets neighbors out like a chance to snoop around your stuff! I am lucky to have pretty good neighbors overall.

I know all the people that live in my Apt. Building and I know most of the people in the other Building in our Complex. I shop for most of the people in my Hall because they are elderly and do not have cars. The public transportation here is very sad and it is difficult for them to get to the store. A gentleman in the other building takes most of them to their doctor appts. because they all seem to use the same doctor and I use the VA. I take the VA people. Because I shop for them I know their likes and dislikes, their sizes and even their grandchildrens sizes and likes. I's say I know them pretty well!! Shalom~Adoniah

I live on a fairly large street, but the part of the street that I live on is at the end. I do know all my neighbours names and I can tell you what they all do. In the summer we spend alot of time going from house to house, yapping so we all know each other. There are a few neighbours that we dont know but that is our choice. Not neighbours I want to know :)

Summer is the best because everyone is outside! I moved once in the Winter and we had a bad one and I barely met anyone for the first few months.
