We got our Newfoundland about 2 1/2 years ago. Her name's Minnie. She was the easiest dog to house train. She instantly jumped into our little fishing boat the first time she saw it (she was 3 months old) and has been a devoted fisherdog eversince. Most of all she's just the sweetest dog we have ever known. She always feels the need to split her time equally b/w my husband and me...and makes a point to kiss our cat every chance she gets. We both love animals and we had a wonderful Saint Bernard, Gracie, who was simply amazing. However, the breeder who sold us Minnie did say, "Once you own a Newfie, you'll never own any other type of dog." Were we just really blessed, or was this woman right?

Hi! One dog lover to another, Newfoundlands are so beautiful. I don't know how blessed you are for the type of dog. Never had a Newfoundland. My dog is a whippet black lab mix, more lab. Which mean she needs LOTS of attention. We have a cat too. The cat chases the dog. Poor dog is afraid of her.Enjoy the addition to your family. How wonderful.

I think the woman was right. I've had my puppy since Dec and I doubt I'll be able to own another type of dog. Or I doubt I'll be able to live without a newf in the family. They are amazing dogs and I think we are lucky to have them in our life!
