Buddha isn't, but Buddhism is. It's not a theistic religion, but believing in a deity is in no way required for something to be a religion (Humanism is also a religion). Buddhism is definitely a religion.

"but believing in a deity" but Buddha isnt a deity..he was just a man with a plan...a great philosophy for life and living, he isnt seen as a god we dont worship him as such or at all for that matter, we just use his teachings to guide our lives....Buddhism isn't a religion at all..

Uh, I know that. That was precisely my point. There is no deity in Buddhism, but it is still a religion. Something doesn't HAVE to have a worshipped deity in order to be a religion.

Buddhism is not a religion. It deals with a person's spiritual development. Buddha taught the insight into the true nature of life. He did not worship G'd or gods. He said "I teach suffering, its origion, its cessation and its path." He taught these things 2500 years ago.

Theism is not a prerequisite for something to be considered a religion.

He is a sort of deity, not a religion. Buddhism is his teaching. Actually, Buddhism teaching is founded by Siddharta Gautama, a prince who lived somewhere in India. He was disillusioned by the rigid Hindu caste system that is corrupting the society. In his quest for truth, he gave up luxury and lived a life of humility and kindness. He eventually reached Nirvana under a bodhi tree. Nirvana in Buddhism is the state when people cease to be reborn and is free from karma. In another word, its Enlightenment. To reach this, mortals must leave everything worldly behind, including lust, greed and so on. Gautama Buddha was a great teacher, much like Jesus Christ. His followers eventually spread his teachings and Buddhism become a great philosophical teaching for people around the world.

Is Budha a religion? This question shows a point not understanding of what is the meaning of Buddha. First, I would like to inform everyone that the word "Buddha" means "the enlightened one" and it refer to a person whose name is Buddha. I want to be clear in this that "Buddha" is not a religion but he is the founder of an ancient religion called "Buddhism". This ancient religion which was founded before Christ is a religion that seek for enlightenment. Buddhism has millions of believer throughout the world. I hope that this is clear now between Buddha and religion.

Buddha is the author of Buddhism, I think he lived before Christ and so they say that Buddhism is older than Christianity. Buddhism is the religion followed by Buddhists.
