A lot of people I know can do this and so can I. I'm amazed how it happens, I just think of a word and the hands act on their own. It's useful when you are in the dark with only the screen in light, you can type without having to look at the keyboard. Can you do that? If you think you can't, just to laugh try to write something without looking :)

Yes, I don't need to look at the keyboard in order to type, and I type very fast. It's very convenient. Those who can't do this should practice their typing, and the more you do, the better you'll get at not needing to look down at the keys.

Hello Rowena, I do exactly the opposite thing, I look at the keyboard and never at the monitor. If I make a mistake I know even if I don't look at the monitor. I can't type only looking at the monitor and without looking at the keyboard because I make a lot of mistakes. I had in the past a program that could help me type faster without looking at the keyboard, but I lost my interest because in that period I was very busy writhing some projects and I couldn't afford to spend the time on starting to change the way I type. But I think that with some exercise I could start typing without looking at the keyboard and only looking at the monitor. Take care and have a great day. ScarFace.

US Keyboard Layout - The layout of a US Keyboard
To answer that question... I have to say yes... and no. A QWERTY keyboard that is used in the US, I have no problem whatsoever typing without looking... typing at~75WPM you need to be able to type without looking and to be able to be accurate. When it comes to an AZERTY keyboard or a DVORAK keyboard (full, left-handed, right-handed) I need to look at the keys sometimes on the AZERTY keyboard and all the time when typing in DVORAK which defeats the purpose of it being a faster system of typing. I checked and found the Italian keyboard is QWERTY and very close to a British keyboard (and very close to US as well). I know France uses AZERTY and Germany uses QUERTZ keyboard... which thanks I don't have to type in German. Arabic... whole different story there... I can't even FIND the keys much less have to look. I am VERY slow when typing in Arabic. Simple answer: yes Ling answer: most of the time Dvorak: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvorak_Simplified_Keyboard

i seldom look at the keyboard when i type, looking at the keyboard then back at the monitor makes me dizzy so i made sure to learn how to type with minimal keyboard looks.

No I don't think I can do it yet. Always have to look at the keyboard when I type and then check again with the monitor if I did type the right words or not.

I must admit that unfortunately I can't I have the computer for more than 10 years now but I have never learned to write with 8 fingers neither to write without looking although that would be such a great skill. I write so much and so often and I think that I can type very fast so I this skills you are talking about could really be useful to me. Lucky you if you can do it. Do you spend a lot of time behind the computer. I do.

Yes, I can type without looking at the keyboard. I am yet to be perfect in doing this anyway but if I give the art more thought and practice more I'll surely improve my typing skills. It's better, easier and faster to type without looking at the keyboard but the skill does not come cheap; it comes at a price. The price is the time (and may be some expense) needed to aquire the skill. I was lucky to come across a typing tutor software which I used to practice to teach myself to type without looking at the keyboard. It's possible that one may be able to download a free version of a typing tutor online. I have not attempted this anyway. Another option is to ask persons around who possess good typing skills how they acquire their skills. Some of them may be able to recommend good and reliable typing tutors. The essential functions of typing tutors is to help one to improve on one's typing skills without looking at the keyboard, improve accuracy of what one types and to improve one's typing speed. I wish you success in your typing!

I can type without looking. In middle school I took a month in keyboard. In high school I took a year of it and I think I might have had to in college.

that is how I type. HOwever sometimes I have problems with the numbers for some reason. I guess I was never able to really master that specific part of typing. It's easy once you're used to do it, except when for some reason you start with your fingers in the wrong place so everything you write is wrong heheheheh It took me a long time to get used to the keyboards here because the letters are in different places from what they were back home.Even after I was used to this keyboard sometimes if I was not paying attention I would still go for the letters in the wrong place LOL

i dont have a typing lesson during college, so when i started working, i have to keep watching the key board when im documenting. But now, i can already watch the screen and not look at the keyboard..i mean considering working here for the last 3 years, and typing everyday, i will definitely memorize the keys already. Although there are times that i need to take a look at the he keys. I know im still not that good.

Yes, I can type without looking at the keyboard. It is amazing what the brain can subconsciously remember. Its the same with piano playing, after a couple of months you can automatically place your fingers where they need to be, and after awhile it almost requires no conscious thought from you, its just there. Amazing stuff, finger memory.

I can't type without looking at the keyboard. I have tried sometimes and I can only type the base letters, but I can't find special characters. I know that typing without looking at the keyboard is very convenient and writing becomes very fast. I need some exercise.

I type without looking at the keyboard all the time, half the time I'm watching tv or something while I'm typing, lol I guess that would be multi-tasking lol. I learned touch typing back in high school though, of course that was back when typing class actually used typewriters lol

I do. In fact I used an old keyboard before - some of its keys are already erased. My average typing speed is around 45 to 50 wpm. But when I'm not looking at the keyboard its only around 40 words per minute.
