There are so many myths floating around that somewhere along the line they finally get straightened out. One is that you need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. The origional recommendation was set back in 1945 and it said that we should have 64 oz. of fluid a day.....that included the water or fluids you get from fruits and veggies and coffee and soda! In the past I tried to keep up with drinking that much water and found it difficult. Do you try to get the recommended amounts of fluids everyday? Or don't you even think about it?

I do drink a LOT of water daily. But I don't really keep tabs on the total amount. But I would guess it is near the gallon mark easily. I had kidney stones once that were very painful passing. After they did a biopsy it was found out they were caused from a lack of water. Not fluids but water. Since then I make sure I drink a lot of water each and every day. Not getting enough water and not getting enough fluids are different as you pointed out. Even if you think you are getting enough fluids, you still need to drink at least 4 glasses of water a day. I have some kidney issues as well and have gotten the water speech many times over the last 5 years.

Fluids keep us hydrated whereas water cleanses the organs keeping them in shape. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I saw on Oprah just the other day that it has changed to 6 glasses now instead of 8. I do drink ice water all through out the day but I don't mess with keeping track of how much. I know I don't drink that much though.

I am usually drinking something that is loaded with caffeine. I know it's not real healthy but keeps me happy. It doesn't keep me awake at night and I am not anxious as a result. My body is happy! I do not try to keep up with the daily recommended amounts of liquids. I let my body speak for my brain and drink when I feel the need. If my brain is lazy on any particular day, I may not drink as much. I start off with coffee in the morning, soda at lunch, soda or tea at dinner, soda or water after dinner. That's my daily drinking habits. I do eat vegetables and know they contain liquids.

I don't think most people do until they are thirsty.. then you really need to drink more water.

I haven't listened to the food nazis since they said eggs were bad for you back in the 80's. I eat what I like when I like. And I don't drink water, I like soda and orange juice.I rather eat what I like and die sooner than have to eat what I don't and live longer.

I don't think about it much but there was this period when I was pretty worried about that and I tried to drink 2l of water daily...I don't know if that's those 8 oz you are talking about but I ended up running to the toilet all the time and I felt like a balloon. Now I drink a big glass of water each time I feel thirsty and that's much better way to get the recommended amounts of fluids everyday, maybe I don't drink 2l but I take what is enough for my body. In my opinion if I pee every 10 minutes that means that my body doesn't actually need all that water.

That would be an indication that you have had enough to drink!

i do my best to drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday. ^__^ and that doesn't include the fruits and veggies and coffee and milk and soda that i take. ^__^;; i usually drink 2 glasses of water every meals so that will make 6 glasses for 3 meals. and then i would drink 1 glass of water every snack time, so that would be 2 glasses for 2 snacks. ^__^;; i started becoming conscious of this because i learned that having enough water in the body is a good way to cleanse the inside of our body, it is good for the skin, and it prevents bad breath. ^__^

I don't. though I should suring the winter.. in the summer I can easily drink a gallon a day - in the winter I might go the whole day through with out drinking a thing, wonder why I feel dizzy towards the end of the day and realize I've had no beverage at all.

Last time I checked it was 6 glasses a day. I'm very bad at remembering getting enough water myself even if I know how important it is. Some days the only water I drink is the one in the morning with my meds and one with dinner! Trying to improve that though. My headaches because of dehydration could be easily avoided.

Yes..they say that more headaches are caused by dehydration then anything. I used to drink coffee all day and had headaches every day. Now I drink water and haven't had a headache since!

I was told once that you were supposed to take your body weight and divide it in 2. Whatever number you end up with is how many ounces of water you are supposed to consume everyday to prevent dehydration. This theory sounds more accurate because people of different weights need a different amount of fluids. I do not drink nearly enough water. I normally don't pay any attention to it.

That does sound more accurate!
