Getting old and still lost

I am thirty one years old and as of this point in my life, I have not decided on a career choice. What is worse is that I am recently divorced and I have unofficial primary custody of my two year old son. It's not like I'm without direction. I have an associates degree in drafting and I used to work for a very prestigious company. I gave all of that up to move to nowhere because of my family. While here, I married and had a little boy, got divorced, and now I have my little boy. I have been unemployed for the past six months while I took care of my child and now I find myself jobless, carless, and without prospects. I am getting to the point where I will take anything. The only good thing is that I moved back in with my mother when I divorced so I do not have to pay for rent. Drafting wasn't my first choice, but it seemed like a good one. Now, it's been over ten years since I have had a job in my chosen field. I would have loved to be an elementary school teacher, but I don't know if it's too late to go back to school. At this point in my life I should be well into my career. I'm lost and I don't know what to do.

Have you ever considered being a substitute teacher. My sister just got a job as one and they don't even need a teaching degree. If you want to be a teacher, this might be a good job for you while you got back to school. I don't know how much they pay by you but here they pay about $100 a day. Not bad at all.
