I am a computer tech for a local business here where I live. By far the best one I have found and recommend to customers is AVG. WWW.grisoft.com This is a free program and actually works better then Norton home edition or McAfee. For spyware I would suggest you get Spybot search and destroy, SuperAntispyware, and Adaware. These are very good programs if you keep them updated and run often you should not have any problems with internet nasties. One other cool utility that I use and is free is a small application called CCleaner. It will keep your cookies and temp files cleaned up much better then the windows disk clean up. Hope this helps you.

I know one thing.. If you have determination and search download.com diligently, you can actually find a free program that suits your needs. They have quite a few that are free yet still effective, but often you must try them out and see which one works for you best.

I use AVG aswell. I've not had any viruses at all, it updates regularly and is much less annoying than Norton.

I actually have two antivirus programs on my computer right now. I have AVG and NOD. I let them both run and haven't run into any problems. One was free and the other came from a torrent download site. I had MacAfee free with my comcast, but it was always causing problems so I uninstalled it and found the others. I recommend the AVG free personal antivirus program. http://free.grisoft.com/

I recommend Avast Antivirus - I recommend Avast Antivirus to protect against Internet nasties.
My favorite antivirus is called Avast. It has a free and professional version. It has a very light 'footprint' and does exactly what you want it to do, fight viruses. * http://avast.com/
