Little Helpfull Hints

If your car door locks are frozen, heat your key with a lighter. Insert the warm key in the lock and leave in place for 20-30 seconds. Be sure to wear gloves. This cleanup trick works while you sleep! Lay a barbeque grill rack on the lawn overnight...the dew will combine with the enzymes in the grass to loosen any burned-on grease. Try it with messy oven racks, too. To clean and condition suede garments, sponge them with a soft cloth dippen in vinegar. To preserve the bight shine of brass, clean it with Worcestershire sauce. It does an unbelievably good job! After washing a cast-iron skillt, wipe around the inside with a wad of waxed paper while it is still warm. This will prevent rusting. If you have any little helpful hints, I would love to hear them. Thanks!

Hi Terry, you are so welcome. I hate this cold weather and we got snow last night too. I try not to take the car out in this weather, but sometimes I have to and then I worry about it starting too.

Try to plan in advance. By knowing what you need, you will be able to buy in larger quantities (almost always less expensive) and cut down on convenience food purchases (always more expensive). If you use national brands, spend a little time clipping and using coupons. Organize the coupons by type, so as you develop a shopping list you can make a notation if you have a coupon. Consider store brands or generics. You may find the quality is equal to (and sometimes better than) the national brands, and store brands/generics are generally considerably less expensive. When it is on sale, stock up. Of course this only applies to those items that you use on a regular basis. Stocking up on an item which you use once a year doesn't make sense (and robs you of spending money, not to mention shelf space). Shop at the store that is the cheapest overall. Surveys have shown that there is sometimes as much as 10-15% difference on identical grocery orders at 2 different stores in the same area. Don't throw away your money just because it is your habit to shop at a certain store.

If you have hiccups and cannot get rid of them and I mean cannot get rid of them because this treatment tastes disgusting. Take a teaspoon of vinegar and drink it. It completely stops the hiccups straight away and has never ever failed me yet. I told my husband and he didn't believe me at first so I told him the next time he gets hiccups he should take some vinegar and he did and it got rid of them straight away. Make sure you have a drink ready because the taste is horrid.

Interesting. I remember one time the car locks were frozen solid with about 2 inches of ice on them. My husband went out with my blow dryer to get them unthawed. Worked well actually. Im going to try the one with the grill rack. Those are so hard to clean and keep nice, especially when you use it twice a day in the summer. My dad always puts a little oil in his cast iron skillet and heats it on the stove. His pan always looks like new. Thank you for the tips!!

I absolutely love the tip to lay the BBQ grill rack on the law overnight. That is a perfect solution! I don't have a grill, but I know plenty of people who do. I bet that never occurred to them. The only one that comes to mind is cleaning the keyboard with Q-tips. Just go through the keys, and dust will come up. If you need to get something off, just spray the Q-tip end with Windex and it is gone. One can always shake the keyboard over a towel, but to really get all the dust, it needs a good cleaning on the keys and in between.

Oh you are on a roll tonight - I certainly will be using the car door one (it's bitter cold here right now) and can't wait until spring when we have grass again so I can try the grill rack and particularly oven rack ones.
