Are you afraid to try something new?

I am not. I love trying new things as long as they are not to physical as I am no spring chicken! LOL...but I have a friend who won't even try to be on a computer. Her boyfriend is stationed overseas and both of us have tried to convince her that she should get a computer so they can communicate! Now he is coming home in two weeks. She needs someone to go get him from the airport. She is too afraid to drive or ride into the city! I told her I am a good driver! But she just can't make herself get into a car and is afraid of traffic! Are you afraid to try something new? Or is there something that terrifies you so much you just can't do it?

I am so surprised that your friend don't have a computer so she could keep in touch with her boyfriend if nothing else. As for her not driving I can understand that but it is hard to understand her not wanting to go with someone else driving. I did go through a time myself where I was house bound, I was scared to even go to the mail box, it is called agoraphobia or something like that. She needs to take it a step at a time then she will see that there is nothing to be afraid of to at least ride with someone. Does she ride with her boyfriend when he is home? The one thing that terrifies me the most are lizards and I will not come close to one and for sure will not touch one. This is something I will never try to do.

Thanks for the info..do you think if I take her for a few test drives that would help? Think of how wonderful it would be for her to meet him at the airport! Thanks for posting!

It wouldn't hurt to try to take her for a test run. You said that she works, how does she get to and from work? What city is the airport in? Is there a route you could take her that did not involve the city traffic? By the time you got closer she might be so excited to see her boyfriend that she wouldn't be too scared of the traffic. I know if she would go and do it she would feel so much stronger and better about that fear. She would maybe want to do it again in the near future.

it actually depends. i would love to try new things but i'm a little reluctant to those things that i'm lack of experience and especially lack of skills. but there are things that i've done already that i didn't know i can.

At one time I thought I was afraid to fly in an airplane...once I got on one I am now one of the best cheerleaders for flying...and have actually gotten to see lots of the world because of it!

Well I am somewhat like your friend. The only reason I have a computer is because my nephew showed me how to use it about two years ago.Until then, I didn't see the point.i thought they were for others not me. but here I am on my own computer. But I don't drive because I am deadly afraid I will kill someone. But if you offer to drive me, I would go.I love drives into the city, country, or highway, just as long as I am not the one driving.

Usually i am not. But for some reason i just do not enjoy driving. I am quite bad at filtering lanes and there are many cars in my city. So it really gets to me. I'd rather leave the driving to the people who enjoy it. I guess I'm chicken when it comes to driving also because I've seen crashes and they kinda scare me. But I have been driving a bit, just to keep in touch with the skill in case of an emergency and i have no choice but to drive.

I think trying new things broadens your horizens, and makes you loosen up a little bit. The more new things that you try the more it is easier to understand life, and the way people are feeling. So if someone is scared to try new things you can speak from experiece, so they're not so scared to try it.

I love trying new things. To me it's sometimes the only way to learn about it. I do have my limits when it comes to heights, so skydiving probably won't be something I'll be trying anytime soon. ;) I can see your friend being afraid to drive in big city traffic if it's something she's not used to, but I'm not sure I understand why she's afraid to ride along. Maybe making a day of it and a few stops along the way would help? For instance stopping for a quick shopping trip in a store or mall she's never been to would help, using the excuse she could buy her boyfriend a nice welcome home gift. Even stopping for a bite to eat may make her a little more at ease.
