Obamma: Christian or Muslim?

Now that the South Carolina primaries are almost upon us, and the campaigning is gathering momentum in the souther "bible belt" of our country, Obamma is working hard to dispel the rumors that he is indeed muslim. However, my question is if he is NOT muslim, then where did the rumors otherwise start? I have heard that he took his oath into office on the Koran rather than the bible. He is now trying to convince people that this is not true. I am not sure what to think....is he a Christian or is he a Muslim? Is he just trying to tell us this to gain votes? What do you think? Where can I get factual information on this subject...not just what he tells us, but cold hard facts?

This is just a rumor started by anonymous e-mails sent by either the Clinton camp or the Republicans. Its just as true as the rumor that Obama took his Oath of Office with the Quran. I actually wrote a blog with the truth to all the Obama rumors flying around. You'll be surprised how scared his opponents are as they have gone through great effort to make Barack look bad. http://hubpages.com/_redwolf/hub/Barack-Obama--Top-Ten-Myths

I think also, a lot of people beleived the rumour about him taking the Oath of Office on the Quran because it was about the time that Keith Ellison took the Oath on the Quran and they confused the two people.

Americans are supposed to be living in the first world, where rumours and lies that smear should be scorned at-but see what am reading, can a great Muslim with all the leadership qualities and with all the patriotic Pan American deals be rejected for an innept christian no matter what? Are all muslims Osama bin laden? To Me, the question that should be bothering all Americans is,will Obama deliver to the American people? Not Is Obama a Muslim? America is a rainbow nation, that should be seen as their national strength-I believe there are American Muslim marines fighting and dying in Iraq-does that make them less American! Those who try to bring religion into all these are being absolutely petty!

I agree with you mehale. It's not about him being Muslim, it's about him not being able to decide what he is. Being Christian is the popular thing to be as president, so is he playing Christian to get votes?? Plus, the fact that he was raised by a radical Muslim just doesn't set well with me. This isn't a time in our country where we can take a chance on someone whose religious ties are concerning.

Exactly, mkirby, it could be a serious problem later, especially with all the current middle eastern problmes.

It is not actually that I have anything against the muslim religion. It is simply if there is any truth in the rumor, then now he is saying he is not muslim, how can we trust him if he is lying? I am simply trying to figure out what the real truth is. If he is the best man for the job, which with a little more political experience he may well be, then I have no problem with his religion. However if he is lying about it and turning his back on his true religion to gain votes, then that would make me VERY leery about trusting him.

He DID in fact take his oath in office on the Koran. His biological father was a Muslim. His parents divorced when he was young and his mother married another Muslim, an extremist Muslim. He grew up going to school in a Muslim school. Whether he has changed his religious ways or not (but the Koran thing makes me think he has not), I do not want someone raised by an extremist Muslim running our country. If he has, in fact, truly changed his religious affiliation, his new church is no better. His church has a "non-negotiable" commitment/contract with Africa (not American...Africa), allows only African Americans to attend/join the church.

These are exactly the things that bother me. Not to mention that if he is so willing to claim to have changed his religious beliefs just to get votes, that does not make him trustworthy either. I had heard something similar about the church he attends before. Do you have a link to their site? I would like to check it out.

Where has it been shown that "he DID in fact take his oath on the Koran"? Are you sure you're not confusing him with Keith Ellison? From my understanding he took his oath on a bible, his own copy of the bible. Here's a link to snopes.com about all of the so-called rumors being spread about Obama: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp And a link to Politifact about his oath: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/238/

I actually don't think politicians should be allowed to even mention what religion they follow. vote for someone based on their policies, and on whether they seem trustworthy. not just because they follow the same religion as you.

That is true, its just that I am seeing a lot of articles in the news about his religious background and history. I just wonder WHY they are making such a big deal out of it if there is no truth in the rumor.

but that's just it. it shouldn't matter if it is true, as long as his policies are right. to be honest, from someone that's not even in that country, I would feel safer with him in charge than I did with bush in charge. Muslim or Christian, no matter. Bush was frightening to have running a big powerful country.

I think the thing he is trying to say is that he was a Muslim for awhile but is a christian now. Unfortunately the "christian church" he has ties with, is very radical and has ties with radical Muslims. And he did take the oath on the Quaran, that was filmed and shown on the news. There are several instances were Obamma has done some back peddling. He is too new at this campaining thing to realize just how much folks are going to poke around into your near and far past to get little goodies to print. They did not seem to have to poke far with Obamma though. Just remember all the stuff that came out about Bush though and he still got elected twice. I do not think people really care. Osamma is good looking and he is a new face and he is a totally different kind of candidate and that is what people are looking for. All of this could very well obliterate anything he did in his past. We may very well elect the first Muslim Prsident next November. Wouldn't that be a Hoot. Shalom~Adoniah

Jormins....visit the website for the church Obama attends. I didn't see anything about support for radical Muslims, but I saw a lot of things that weren't quite right.

Actually, now that you mention it I had also heard something similar about that church a while back...not sure where I heard it though. I will have to see if I can dig up some info on it.

The Trinity United Christian Church is tied to the Muslims? I'd love to see any evidence of that besides just your word or perhaps an anonymous political e-mail. Obama HAS NEVER been a Muslim as a child in Indonesia he attended Catholic & Muslim schooling for 2 years because they were the best schools around. Where has Obama back pedaled from? He is the only candidate who will actually answer a question truthfully. Posts like this scare the he** out of me.

Well, if you are wanting to sway others' opinions shayshae, you might want to try speaking correctly. I doubt anyone is going to trust the opinion of one who cannot speak. Really.

I have not totally made up my mind WHO to vote for as of yet. Other than the fact that he would be the first black president in history, can you tell me WHY you stand so strongly behind him?

I have to admit it does deserve a little more looking into. And with all the problems already in the middle east, that might actually make them a lot worse if there is any truth in that rumor.

He is a member of a Christian church, but a church that has very firm ties to Africa, and says so right on their website. I don't think there is any mention of ties to Muslims in Africa, though. I just generally don't think he has the experience to lead this country at this time.

Yes I think I have heard that before. I also have to agree that he needs a little more political experience under his belt before he is president.

He has made it clear over and over again that he is a Christian. Welcome to the wonderful world of politics where smear campaigns and scare tactics are used to influence voting. His name alone causes people to play word association games with Osama bin Laden. Factor in his father and his step-father were both Muslim, a fact he has never hidden. These two things make him a prime target for fearmongers to pick on and sway voters to the other side. Fox News did a story awhile back claiming he attended a "radical Islamic madrassa" in Indonesia as a child. Which turned out to be a blatent lie. The school he attended was not an Islamic school in the sense that they tried to lead us to believe. It turned out to be a school attended by children of various faiths taught side by side.

You have a point there. I get so very tired of all the mud slinging that goes along with an election year. I want to hear facts, and the candidates stance on the issues....not one candidate attacking another. Unfortunately that will probably never happen.
