Icy Road Accident

As the wife & I woke up Monday morning in the Casino Hotel we looked out our window & it appeared to have snowed overnight. But nope, it was a coating of ice/frost. It was damp out and below zero so the moisture froze on the streets etc. A few hours later we headed out on the roads. The roads were still icy. Well half way to her work we saw a scene where traffic was backed up. As we approached the area an ambulance took off. This is one of many rollovers we saw on the way home which is a 50 mile trip at the most. She got upset as I stopped the car on the shoulder putting the flashers on and opening the trunk to get my camera out for this and a few other shots. HAHAHAHA! You know me I just have to get this type of photo for this purpose. I don't think there was a serious injury in this one as the truck did not look all that bad. Have you ever stopped on a major highweay to watch an accident scene etc?

This is a perfect example of why I hate driving on icy roads. Snow is bad but ice is the worst. I hope no one was injured but they may not know for a few days. I rolled a car once 10 or so years ago and although I walked away, actually went to work, the next day I felt like I'd be run over by a steam roller :(
Bob have you ever sold your photos? From what I understand you can make a nice income just getting photos like this for local newspapers and such.

cars in my country ALWAYS slow down to watch what happened at an accident, thus causing a jam even though the car involved in the accident is already moved into the road shoulder.
icy roads are very dangerous. glad that you two were safe!
recently i saw a very disturbing scene. there was a motorbike crashed and some police already on the scene, but we obviously passed before an ambulance arrived so we saw a young man lying motionless at the side of the road. I prayed that he would be okay...

Drivers do that all over the world. Most traffic jams are from this. We call it a "Gawker slowdown". A gawker is someone that gawks (stares) at things. HAHAHAHAHA!! I had helped save a womans life this past summer. Her car had flipped upside down landing on its roof. Dig through my old discussions to find that if you wish. I forget the title though. HAHAHA!

Those icy roads must be terribly dangerous. I get nervous driving when there is a lot of rain & the roads are slippery. If it hails, I pull over.
No, I dont stop to look at accidents. We are not allowed to. The police are always there with barriers.

No Grandpa Bob, I can't say that I have done that. : ) I've been in a roll over accident before, so I tend to want to pass them as soon as possible. : ) Now taking my trash out this morning I almost slipped on the ice and did my own version of a rollover. Too bad you didn't get a picture of that, LOL.

Hello dear Grandpa Bob. Right now it is snowing in many parts of China and in Xi'an alone, I have heard on the news that many trucks and cars have not been able to move on because of the thick snow and icy roads and the drivers have to stay overnight in their trucks and cars on the superhighway. I hope that fine weather will come soon for the roads to be cleared for the drivers to ride on safely.

I don't stop. Most likely you'll be able to read about it in the local news or see it on television. I wouldn't want to become part of the scene.

Oh goodness. I hope the people were ok. I haven't ever stopped to watch an accident scene before. We had ice here this morning like that. It wasn't too bad at my house but down at my father in law's house they had a lot of ice. They said on the news that down around where my father in law lives that they had over 75 wrecks there within a 90 minute period. They were saying that they didn't even have enough ambulances to go to every wreck.

lol Leave it to you to possibly block traffic just to watch/get pics of an accident scene. Naw, I always drive slowly by to see if it's anyone I know. I get yelled at by the cops if I stop. lol

Well AgB you really made me giggle - is there anywhere or any circumstances that you wouldn't stop and whip out your camera? It is so easy to have an accident in icy conditions - I hate it when people drive the same way and speed they do under ordinary conditions.
I have to say I have never stopped to look at an accident scene - my brother has spent 20 odd years as a traffic policeman and he has always told me that more people have bumps and crashes when they slow down to rubber neck at an accident than any other time - I never thought of parking up to look! lol xxx

Being an RN I have not stoped at any accidents because of my license. I can be sued where you cannot. If I do something wrong it can jepordize my living where if you get sued you are covered under the good samaritan law. Frankly I have not come across an accident that has not had emergency personnel on had already.

I can't say that I have ever pulled over to watch an accident scene. But there have been many times that I have been in the traffic awaiting for an accident scene to be cleaned up. I'm always in a hurry to get where I am going, no time to watch if I don't have to sit in traffic.
